I was watching my Sony, which had worked perfectly up to this point, when it suddenly shut off. When I attempt to turn it on, the "ON Switch" makes a noice when pressed, however there is no picture or sound. What are your recommendations for fixing this problem.
Just this week I had the same problem. If you are hearing a click responding to your pushing on the power button then it is more than likely a short that is preventing the problem. In my case it was a matter of dust.
I fixed the problem by opening up the back of the set and blowing all the dust out. There was a ton of dust accumulated on the circuit boards over the years. Once the dust was cleared I check to make sure the power fuse was not blown and it was fine. I then closed it up and it turned on without a problem.
My Sony is over fifteen years old and it still works like a charm. Its not HDTV, but it works great. When it finally goes; then I will buy a much bigger flat screen HDTV.
Good luck.
