This trouble symptom picture overscan or blooming, usually the enlargement is uniform, but there may be some defocusing,If the picture overscan is not accompanied by insufficient width. The probable cause is a failure in the high-voltage circuit only , particularly the HV retifier and also to (HOT) horizontal output transistor is leak already..

That same thing happens with my dish box. The only way i can get rid of it is to change the tv to a 4:3 aspect ratio (which sucks because it isn't a letterbox picture).

I've just gotten use to it, however, i'll look in to the problem tonight and report back if i can fix it (as I agree, it is annoying)

    Do you have the "
Dish Network platinum HD/ vip622"? I found this info on a forum:
"The 622 gives the priority to the HD widescreen programing, if it did
not a large part of the image area would be cut off of the viewing
area. And since most HD tv's are 16x9 they feel the customer should be
given the choice of seeing the sd channels as either normal (hence the
black bars), stretched or a couple of other zoom modes, so in the
components and HDMI imputs put the format control with the receiver (*
button at bottom of the remote)."

Try that * button it mentions

Success! the * key at the bottom left of my standard dish remote changed the picture so it was no longer cut off, TRY IT!

Have you tried the * key at the bottom left of your DISH Network Controller? Press that and it will change the aspect ratio of the program you are watching. You can keep pressing it to cycle between different aspect ratio's.

    that fix should work

This should be a Dish Network setting, not a television setting.

Magnavox flat screen tv has lines on one side of the picture

If its production date is more than four years retire it, to answer your question the set will have two single or one large boards, the two board version one of the boards drives the picture on one side of screen and other on the other side, the version with just one larger board combines both boards into one

You might want to Google the model number with"parts" to see what is available and at what cost for this set, They only sell boards and no individual parts for all of this type of set.

Picture is to large for 27in

If model indicated here is correct either a problem in the Vertical circuit of the set or an adjustment.

Almost any shop can take the set into the service menu and adjust vertical size a bit to correct if not circuit problem.

I have sound but no picture screen is black 19inch screen

I cannot say enough about this model. There is a bad capacitor or two in this set. You should be looking for a buldged cap at maybe 25 or 35 volts at 2200Mfs. Replace this and the next one near would be a 35 volt at 1200 Mfs. I have a question for you, if the model number is 42 MF, the screen is large. And yet you say it has a 19 inch screen. I'm not sure if you have the large TV or the small TV. The answer I give you is for the large screen. Hope this helps you! Thanks for asking and show a few hands of support!

Picture too large

Normallly, if the picture size button on the remote for the television does not achieve the desired affect, then, a cable box or a satelite box is where the change needs to be made.
For example:
Some Motorola Cable receivers need to be set up in the menu to go to a wide screen or zoom mode when an analog signal is detected. There may be a format button on the remote.
Some Dish Network boxes have Size buttons on their remotes and also in their main menu.
It's difficult to determine the repair without knowing the types of the peripherals.
Hope this helps.
