Question about HP Photosmart C6180 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Issues with my HP Photosmart PSC 7280

I suddenly have two issues I just can't seem to fix with my new HP:

The first is a carriage jam. It says to "open the door and clear the jam" I assume they are talking about the door that opens upwards and shows the location of all my print cartridges, but I see no evidence of what you would call a "carriage jam." And how do you fix a carriage jam" I know the carriage does a hard return and shakes the printer.

Second, my photo tray it claims is out and not all the way pushed in, but I do push it all the way in, and it still says it.

How do I fix these issues? I have no idea because I look in there and see nothing wrong

P.S.-- Despite what I put down under product, it is REALLY a PSC 7280. You have no option for that.

Thanks! I was getting prepared to dig for my warranty. It is a great printer, just was shocked when it went from working fine the last few months to suddenly a bunch of issues!

I had the same problem. You can access the carriage from the back of the printer. I actually had a jam , however just as you exposing the carriage from the front I did not see a thing.

HP Inkjet Printers - Fixing Paper Path Issues: Paper Jam, Carriage Jam, and...

For a printer to work, the paper has to move through the printer. The route that paper follows through the printer is called the paper path. If the paper doesn't pick up (no pick) or something interferes with the paper path, nothing prints. If the paper is stuck in the path, you have a paper jam. Sometimes jammed paper in the printer can lead to the device that carries your ink cartridges back and forth in your printer to get stuck (carriage jam) as well. Sometimes the carriage can stop moving for other reasons.

The videos in the following playlists were created to help resolve these paper path issues. These videos are not short or entertaining but they are complete. They repeat steps (test print) so even novice users can follow these without having to refer back to instructions earlier in the video. The solutions in these videos are what works to solve paper path issues most of the time. Follow the steps completely. Sometimes people shortcut some of the solutions. Avoid shortcuts for accurate troubleshooting.

The steps for resolving paper path issues are specific to your printer. These playlists have videos for about many different models. We will continue adding to the collection or updating the videos when we find new ways to resolve these issues. The title and description of the videos explain what models the videos apply to.

Some of the videos end with a step that explains that the printer needs to be serviced. If your printer is still in warranty and you get to that step, contact HP for help. If your printer is out of warranty, open a new post in this forum and see if others have a non-conventional solution that will help. Also, Google is your friend offering non-HP out of warranty solutions for servicing/fixing a broken printer.

Make sure to check all the way to the right and left inside. I ussually find paper loose in either of those ends. Then check your encoder strip which is the plastic strip that the carriage slides on. This may be dirty causing this issue. Use a soft paper towel and alcohol. Windex is okay to but may leave streaks on it and give same issue.

Documents are printing slanted on page

It sounds like need some technical maintenance and at that point you have two options.. take it to a service center, or buy another printer (or if whithin warranty talk to HP about your problem, your attempts to fix it and possibly get it replaced). sounds like a component inside your printer may be either not working properly or there's something inside keeping the rolling componentes from keeping the page straight as it goes through your printer.
It does not sound like a driver problem...
btw.. did you mean carriage jam or cartridge jam??
if it was carriage:

if it is a cartridge error try check the following:

Carriage jam issues on hp printer

So sorry to hear that you are having issues with your C4385 printer. HP's All-In-One printers seem to be very touchy when it comes to carriage jams, and mine is no exception. They are usually caused by little bits of paper left over from a previous jam, so you just have to work out where to find them. HP produced a page with diagrams to help people find them. Please click here to access their solution page.

Hope this helps!
