My old phone broke and i was not able to afford a new phone at full retail price. So i purchased one off of Ebay for 1/3 of the price. It turns out that it is a pay-as-you-go phone. When i took it to a Verizon booth to get it activated and put onto my contract they said it was not able to be done. But the seller one Ebay assures me that it is. Is this really possible and how can i get it working?

- The phone was sad to be brand new/never opened. So dose that mean that the phone should work fine?
Thank you very much.

- The phone also says that the "Initial Programming Needed". So dose that mean it hasn't ever been activated??
If the phone has ever been activated as a prepaid phone, the ESN is locked for 6 months, and verizon will not activate it on a postpaid account during that time. I suggest you tell the eBay seller this and try to get your money back. If however the phone has never been activated as a prepaid phone it should work fine, and you might try going to another verizon location (the rep might just want you to buy a new phone and sign another 2 year contract...)

- sounds like the phone should be ok then. I would try another verizon location to get it activated. Or you could call customer service and try to to an ESN swap. Don't give up until they get it activated for you because it WILL work.
When you buy a pre paid phone new they come with a certain number that you must call that is in the hand book it self, but if the phone came with no hand book then it is supposed to display intial programming because you have not programmed it to your local tower or land line. You can easily fix that by dialing *611 or *228.The verizon employee was probably just telling you that on account of most verizon representives or any kind of representives want you to purchase what they offer not what you can bring in for a cheaper price. There is another possiablty that the employee was not aware of of being able to change over the phone because the pre-paid method is a whole different territory then what a sales rep does, the pre-paid sells it self either you like it with no strings attached or not, pre paid for me is the way to go because if i run out i run out, but with a personal account you run out of min's you pay out the A@$. So its all up to the user and if you go pre paid there is a way you can set up your own features over the phone and you can have them take out so much of month from your card for the min's you want so it adds and you use and you dont lose, also there is a cool feature ten bucks a month gets you unlimited text and 250 pic and video texts. When theres two days before your months up verizon pre paid sends you a text you can add or decide to keep more calling min YOUR CHOICE AND WHEN YOU RUN OUT U DONT BANKRUPT OUT. The ebay user is correct in a sense you either have to walk in and the sales rep is having a good sales week or just know somebody on the inside, oh yeah Ive had a Pre paid phone when they first came out from verizon and havnt went back to my personal account sense, THE CHOICE IS YOURS USE WISELY

- Oh yes that is correct that the phone has never been activated, but there is also a possiable chance that the number has expired there for reseting its self back to the way you get it when you purchase a pre paid phone. When you call in your numbers from the handbook you are programmed to you land line or tower and given the proper area code and random number.

- OR DIAL STAR SIX ONE ONE OR STAR TWO TWO EIGHT. star 611 is the account info(how many min, when account number is due, special features etc) star 228 is the programming number that will program the phone to your area code, it is best to this every couple of weeks to maintain a good signal with you land line, Ive never had a lost call but area coverage may differ!!!
