Vista needs different drivers for various devices - make sure you have downloaded and installed Vista drivers for your video, and other devices.

Are you trying to set up a raid configuration? If not I would reformat using the 98 disk and reinstall. (You may be able to skip installing 98, try installing xp first and it should ask for the disk containing the software (win98) that qualifies for the upgrade.

WINDOWS XP WON'T LOAD TO HARD DRIVE

1) If you are trying to install from a bootable disk and trying to make a fresh install, you will not come across this error.

2) If you are trying to repair the existing installation, you might need to use FIXBOOT command and try. Please refer the below link before you try this.

Installing xp

Once you have installed Vista which is a higher version than XP, it is not possible to install XP after having installed Vista. The best way around is to uninstall Vista, load XP first and the again install Vista on a diff. partition. Now it should be operable with the choice to switch to the OSat your convenience.....sodeep

I have Acer Desktop AcerPower and i want to install windows xp but there is message say no hard drive found

It's probably because your PC has the new SATA interface hard drives, you need to load a special SATA driver from acer through floppy disk during at the beginning of windows XP setup, for it to find hard drives on your pc.

You should check Acer web page and look for the drivers (the acer's europe page is faster BTW). If your PC came with windows vista or doesn't have floppy drive bay, there's a chance that you won't find this driver (and you'll have to keep using vista), unless some other model of your PC were sold with XP.

Hard Drive Failing?

It may be a virus or spyware. You can go HERE and run Trend Micro's Housecall on your PC. It's free.

You should also perform regular system cleanups and defrags on your pc.

Vista recovery/hard drive

hi your hard drive is a 250gig when your reinstalling vista it will think that your pc needs to split the hard drives for recovery this is why its done that and because of that it will use a small part of the hard drive for its own mem use so you will lose the total size of the hard drive im running 1000gig and only getting 800 gig for my self this you cannot do anything about .
the only thing you can do is reinstall your vista program and when on the screen for formatting the hard drive it will say do you want to format the partitions in the box there will be a delet this partition you must delet all the partitions so there is only one left then you must reinstall vista on that one only this will get rid of all the other ones so you sould be left with just 1 hard drive when you start up vista this should put you back on to close to 235gig
hope this works for you
all the best thanks

My hard drive on my acer 2010 died so I was thinking about replacing it. Do I need to do anything special to it before I load the operating system disk, etc.. Will it boot up and give me directions?

You just install the replacement hdd, the operating disk will prompt you to format and partition (if required) (windows xp & vista) once all loaded you wil probably have to load some drivers.

Hard drive driver problem

Hi,

It is possible that your hard drive is a SATA and therefore not readily readable by 98, XP but surprised not even by Vista. In any case, since you would still prefer to run XP (due to other software compatibility issues), pls press F6 when prompted by the XP installer. Additionally, you would need to have ready in a floppy the appropriate SATA drivers for your motherboard. They maybe downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer's website or possibly in the installer/driver CD that came with the PC.

Other than the above, it is also possible that you may have some issues with the availability of XP drivers for the other devices for that computer specially if it is branded.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Hard drive

You connected the usb had drive , and if it had an external power source it was on ???

ok right click on mycomputer
choose hardware
choose device manager
right click anything on the tree view and click scan for hardware changes.. Windows Xp should automatically detect and install it..

If you got vista, Right click computer and choose device manager,, right click anything on the tree view and click scan for hardware changes,, windows vista should install it automatically

IF THAT FAILS
verify your usb cable is good
check if your device requires an external power source and verify that it is connected..

connect it to another computer to see if it working

IF ALL THE ABOVE FAILS THE UNIT IS NO GOOD..,, you could try changing the harddrive inside it but i would have been wanting my money back or insurance since it could have been damaged while shipping..

I THINK I MAY HAVE COVERED IT ALL BUT IF I MISSED ANYTHING PLEASE POST IT AND I WILL TRY TO ASSIST
