Many monitors with integral speakers require a separate audio cable from the monitor to the PC, to be connected to the green "line out" port.

Some have a USB cable that does the same thing. Look closely at the back of the monitor to see if that's your problem.

And, make sure the volume is turned up on the computer and the monitor itself.

Post back if you need more help.

Good Luck,
Airoff

The green port on the back of your computer is for small speakers, this is the one mostly used. If you have subwoofer connect it to the orange port. The black port is used if you have surround speakers. The white port is for side surround speaker.
This is the integrated or built in sound card. If you have add on sound card then you need to use that instead. You can get the manual of your computer by clicking on this link.

I cannot get any sound output from my Acer Aspire T180 desktop PC. I changed the monitor from the original "out of the box" monitor. I have plugged in media speakers but there still is no sound output.

Sounds like a driver problem.

You should be able to get a universal Realtek driver from here.....

Unable to connect speakers to desktop

The monitor has integrated speakers. This means that there should be a headphone jack at the front or side of the monitor. You can plug your (amplified!) speakers into this jack, and it will bypass your monitor speakers.

What kind of integrated sound card do you have?? I am going to assume its realtek. Go to control panel, then open up RealTek HD Sound effect manager and make sure the drop down menu for Environment is on "none". The try your speakers.

No sound through external speakers

Although some monitors have built in speakers, most people have stand alone speakers. If the old monitor had built in speakers and now it is unplugged you won't hear sound. Even if the speaker cable is still plugged into the sound output on the back of your computer, the monitor must be plugged into an electrical outlet to have power.

I'd recommend buying a new set of external speakers if this is the situation.

If you never had speakers built into the monitor then normally changing monitors would make no difference whatever. The only explanation that makes sense under those conditions is that in the process of replacing the monitor, you dislodged the speaker jack from the sound output on the back of the computer.

Make sure your external speakers have electrical power plugged in, the power is on (green light on at least one speaker lights up) and the volume on the speakers is at least half way up.

Unplug the speaker from whatever hole it is plugged into and plug it firmly back in and test sound.

If still no sound other than some static on the speakers, try every single hole on the back of the computer that the jack will fit properly and test for sound.

Let me know if you have further questions.

Dude, the hdmi is just for the video signal, you'll have to use a separate audio cable to get sound from the integrated speakers.
