G'day, my gigabyte ga-m78sm-s2h does nothing more than power on. It won't post wnything, I disconnected monitor, ram and drives and it wouldn't even give any error messages. The cpu fan will sometimes stop spinning as well.Would it be the motherboard issue or the CPU that has failed?
Thanks

The front panel connections are shown on page 28 of the manual. There are two lines of pins. From left to right, the inside line of pins are the Power LED +, Power LED -, Power Switch +, Power Switch -, then the Case Speaker +, Case Speaker -. (The speaker - is next to a Case Fan connector; so there are a couple of blank spots between the speaker + and - pins.) On the line of pins at the edge of the board, again from left to right: HD LED +, HD LED -, Reset Switch -, Reset Switch + . There is no contact on the last pin in this group.
Just had the same problem, same board. This mb does not play well with all types of RAM. I had a single 2gb Patriot dimm and it did the exact same thing, removed the RAM and it would boot but no screen. Replaced the single dimm with 2 - 1gb dimms and it booted right up with no problem. Hope this helps.
I am not sure on the beeps on what your mean. There is a short beep or a long beep or a series of beeps. Here is a website for you to help you to determine that.
Try getting into the BIOS and making sure that it is detecting the RAM and HDD and Processor. Typically this happens when theres no memory or a memory problem. If its the Hard drive it will say NTLDR missing or Hard Drive failure. When its blank.
Does the Hard drive fire up when its sitting there? Does it seem like it booting the Hard drive or does it just sit there.
Also, if you have an onboard Video and a video card, try using just the onboard video for now, sometimes the Video card can cause an issue if it doesnt have drivers and comes up blank.
Make sure the bios has the video set to PCI or AGP depending which you have intstall. Or Auto if it has it.
I have had two Gigabyte board and im using one now and have had similar issues that where caused by a ATI video card.
