Sony 46" XBR2 Cannot turn off closed caption

HELP!

I cannot turn off closed caption / subtitles on the tv. I have checked all tv setting and Metrocast remote control settings. I have HD / HDMI cables and HD Metrocast service if that helps any.

Thanks,

Same thing here - we have tried to call Sony and they said that it's the cable box. The cable company (Comcast) points the finger back at Sony because they reset the box to factory settings, which don't allow for closed captioning. Sony sucks.

With TV on, turn off DVR and hit menu on DVR remote - you can disable CC from there.  Worked for us - got the idea from another fixya post.

Subtitles stuck on!! Using a one for all remote with no button for subtitles. Using a celcus tv!! Pre christmas ive been stuck with this

You are confusing subtitles with closed captioning (CC). Subtitles are part of the medium, e.g., English subtitles in a French movie. Closed captioning usually is selected during initial set up of your TV. You may have to return to the initial set up procedure to cancel CC.

I have a 32 inch Upstar LED TV. How do I turn off closed captioning?

On the remote there is a button for Subtitles. Press that button and the Subtitles will disappear. If it is not on the remote then you have to find it in the TV's settings. 'Closed captions' are old words. We now call these 'Subtitles' and all TV's with remotes have a 'Subtitle' button. Look for it, then press while pointing the remote to the TV.

I can not turn off the closed captioning on my philips tv , i do not have the original remote to the tv but my cable remote works as a universal remote, please help me the subtitles are driving me crazy !...

I have direct tv, and had the same problem. After an hour on the phone with the worthless tech, I gave up. Finally I figured it out. First of all do you have closed caption problems or is it "subtitles". mine turned out to be direct tv subtitles, not closed caption. I hit the yellow button on the direct tv remote, and presto. Subtitles was set to the on position. changed it to off, and what do you know. fixed.

HOW DO I REMOVE THE SUBTITLES FROM MY SONY BRAVIA

Hi,
The Subtitle option is available only with the connected devices like DVD Player, Blu-ray Disc Player etc. The option avaialble in the TV is known as Closed Caption. The Closed caption option can be turned off by selecting the options below:
Press Menu button on the TV Remote. Select, Setup settings. Then select Caption Vision option to OFF. This option is for turning off the Closed Caption option in the TV to OFF. For disabling the Subtitle option in the connected devices like DVD Player and Blu-ray Disc Player, press the SUBTITLE button on the supplied Remote continuously to select OFF.
In few of the TV broadcasting channels the Subtitles cannot be turned OFF as this is being broadcasted with the channels.
Good Luck! KenSolutions

Cant get the subtitles of the screen been pressing the subtitle button thanks.

Are you sure they are subtitles rather than closed captioning (if it is TV rather than DVD, it is closed captioning)?

If it is closed caption, pressing subtitle won't turn them off. If there is a button that says "Closed Caption" or "CC" press it. If not, press menu and look for the CC option (it should be under video or audio depending on the TV). Turn it off.

If you are watching a foreign language movie on TV (not DVD) it is likely hardsubbed (you can't turn the subs off because they are burned into the video).

This is likely your DVD player, not the tv.

First go into the setup menu of your DVD player and make sure "subtitles" are turned off.

Next, put a DVD into the player and when it gets to the menu, go into the audio setup.

If subtitles are turned on, turn them off. If subtitles are turned off, turn them on and exit the menu, then go back into the menu and turn them off again. I've seen this reset this same problem on some DVD players.
