Question about Dynex DX-E401 Router

Dynex wireless modem

I have a Dynex wireless modem, Time Warner Cable Roadrunner, and a Magnovox modem. I keep having trouble getting on the internet. I connected Time Warner Cable techs three times last week. Each time they were able to temporary fix the problem. Last night as I was installing a new printer, I was on the internet without any trouble. When the computer rebooted for the new printer, I was not able to get back on. All signs point that the internet is conected. We own a business and have had the same problem. There we have an old modem and are planning to buy a new one for the store (a Dynex?). The tech said that the Dynex was a good modem. She said that I need to contact Dynex to see if the modem was configured for Roadrunner and for my internet modem. I cannot find any way that I can contact Dynex to see what the problem is and how to fix it. Can you help? The modem at home is a new one that we got when we changed from Verzion to Time Warner Cable.

I'm having the same problem, but all troubleshooting shows that my router is not connected, when it clearly is. I've triple checked my connection and when I try to reinstall it says that my router isn't connected. but if I unplug it and switch to the modem it works just fine, so I know its not my internet connection.

Turn the cable-modem off.
Unplug the AC poewr to the cable-modem.
Turn the router off.
Unplug the AC power.
Reconnect the AC power to both the cable-modem and the router.
Turn the router on -- this off/on sequence should "reset" the cable-modem and the router.

If the router still does not work, replace it.

If the cable-modem does not work, get RoadRunner to replace it, if they want to keep you as a paying customer.

Trying to share internet connection

Make sure that the modem is connected to the internet port of the router and the pc should be connected to the numbered ports. Now power cycle the network, turn off the router first then the modem. Wait for 3-5 minutes then turn on the modem and router.

Time Warner Cable won't identify Linksys WRV54G wireless router

If you can connect directly via your modem, then the line up to your house is fine. So no problem with your ISP.

Since you changed from cable to DSL, you might have to re-configure your router.
Open a web browser, type "192.168.1.1" in the address bar and log on to the web based router configuration page. (The default values are "admin" for username and "admin" for password)
Go to "Setup", choose "Basic" and review the entries there. You want to see it configured for "PPPoE".

Some DSL-based ISPs use PPPoE (Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet) to establish Internet connections. If you are connected to the Internet through a DSL line, check with your ISP to see if they use PPPoE.
If they do, you will have to enable PPPoE.
User Name and Password: enter the User Name and Password provided by your ISP.

Connect on Demand: Max Idle Time. You can configure the Router to cut the Internet connection after it has been inactive for a specified period of time (Max Idle Time). If your Internet connection has been terminated due to inactivity, Connect on Demand enables the router to automatically re-establish your connection as soon as you attempt to access the Internet again.
If you wish to activate Connect on Demand, click the radio button.

In the Max Idle Time field, enter the number of minutes you want to have elapsed before your Internet connection terminates.
Keep Alive Option: Redial Period. If you select this option, the router will periodically check your Internet connection. If you are disconnected, then the Router will automatically re-establish your connection. To use this option, click the radio button next to Keep Alive.
In the Redial Period field, you specify how often you want the Router to check the Internet connection. The default Redial Period is 30 seconds.
When you have finished making changes to the screen, click the Save Settings button to save the changes, or click the Cancel Changes button to undo your changes.

Can  Dynex 4 Port Router DX-E402 be used to connect internet on a notebook without using cable to notebook?? i.e. Can it be used like a wireless g router??

Unfortunately, the DX-E402 is not a wireless router, so it can not transmit its signal without a physical cable connecting the router to your computer. If you want a wireless router that can also connect to your ISP, check out the Dynex Enhanced Wireless G Router:

I have switehed to Grande Cable and my router will not work

ok, lets test the first obvious things. keep in mind that i'm not trying to be insulting at all. i don't know if my words may come across that way, but that is not my intent.

have you unplugged both the modem AND the router, connected them, THEN powered them on? the modem in particular may need to be unplugged for a time varying from 10 seconds to 60 seconds.

is the cable good? try using this cable to connect your modem to the computer. try using another (even if shorter) known-to-work cable to make this connection.

if the long cable fails, and the short one works, then that is likely our problem. if they both work great, we keep looking.

please let me know how these tests help you.

Dynex wireless G router

When the installation software asked me if I performed the steps in the Quick Installation Guide, I just said yes. Here's what I had done prior (I'm not saying this is what the guide says to do, but, I was able to set up my DYNEX Wireless Enhanced G Router after having done these steps):
  1. Connected the power cable and plugged it in to the wall.
  2. Connected the Internet cable from my DSL modem to the Green port on the back of the router.
  3. Connected my PC using an RJ-45 cable to one of the blue ports on the back of the router.
