If you are new to FixYa this guide will help you get under way

Some DO's and DONT's for Experts to succeed

1.Before you start answering premium posts, DO read thoroughly the Expert Terms of Service, the FixYa Expert Agreement, the Expert FAQ, and also the Payment Program FAQ. If you have any questions or need advice, ask questions in this post, but if you have not read them, you will be sent there anyway to read them, so PLEASE just read them.

2.Select only fields of expertise that you are an expert in. This will get you started with confidence.

3.Do as many "free" solutions as you can, get used to the process of providing support. This is essential to make it in the Premium system

4.Don't try and provide answers about things you do not understand. Its simple. It is all about experts. If you are a good problem solver, then there is a huge future for you here. Please refrain from trying to answer questions you have no knowledge of.

5.Jump on as many chats as you can, but READ THE CUSTOMERS PROBLEM FIRST. Only open those you have some experience on. This is what the client is expecting when you come on line.

6.Ask for reviews of your postings from other Top Experts , then take on board any advice tendered. They will always give you a fair and reasonable answer, so please don't then become offended if you are told your solutions need more work.

7.Do not abuse or discredit other experts solution. There will always be opinions on who is right and wrong, but keep it technical and directly based on the problem/solutions given. Just engage in conversation using the ASK feature, and try to sort it out. If it gets messy, then go to the lounge for open discussion if you feel that a wrong must be corrected or you want more opinions.

8.Do not engage in "place holding" tactics with one liner no solution content answers. You may think that there is an advantage to be gained by this, but in reality there is not. The client will just pass over any place holding posts, in turn ignoring any future comments you may have, making it harder to get accepted for a premium job.

9.If you are noticed using illegal tactics in the pursuit of Premium Payments, you may be ASKED about it by another expert, this "ASK" then goes into the rank and file with the other free jobs, so everyone gets to see it. That is unless of course you answer in defence of your activities immediately.

10.Use understandable polite English only. If your spelling, vocabulary or grammar is not good, it may become very hard for people to clearly understand your solution, or you to correctly understand their problem. Use a spell checker plugin that checks as you type. SMS TXT speak, shortened words, and acronyms are hard for most people to understand so do not use them. If you have problems here, it may mean contributing to premium posts where customers are paying is not the place for you. We all learned English at some point, so just learn some more if you find communication difficult in the solution threads.

11.Cutting and pasting from copyrighted websites is strictly forbidden. Although the solution to a problem may not have a copyright on it, the body of work written describing that solution does have a copyright to the producer of the work. This sort of practice is plagerism and will lead to IP banning, particularly when you have cut and pasted word for word from another website. your solutions must be in your own words as detailed in the Expert Terms of Service. Public forums are often wrong and just opinion, and in some cases are not copyrighted, but you should check before using info from these sites.

12.Do not give out your personal details, email, IM address or contact info. Admin have forbidden this practice and banned people for doing it.

13. If you want to post a tip then go to My Products page or browse to the product support page, select the product you wish to write a Tip about, then scroll down and click on "Post a new tip for this product". You cannot edit them once posted so it is a good idea to use a word processor to edit it first. DO NOT cut and paste copyrighted material. Be aware that tips will also fetch you votes or ratings so post a good tip and increase your rating..

14.If we all work to a set of standards to maintain the integrity of solutions then great things will come.

Getting a quality answer to your Fixya question.

At FixYa, we understand that everyone has a need to have their question answered. Many, if not most of the Experts here are not paid, and even paid Experts are required to answer a quota of free questions
We would truly love to answer your questions. Unfortunately, those of us that are not paid for our answers have no way of effectively communicating with you, with the exception of simply answering your questions, and therein lies a certain dilemma.

Many askers (even those offering to pay an expert), simply do not ask proper questions. Some, on occasion do not ask a question at all (e.g. "My car won't start". Or, "My computer won't turn on".)
.
When asking a question, make every effort to gather as much information about the object of your question. The more information you give, the better you'll get. Describe your problem in detail. Or at least as much detail as you can. Instead of writing, "I need drivers for my network card". Add more information. Even though what might seem to be an insignificant detail to the asker, might make all the difference in the world in an experts ability to answer their question. For example: "My PC won't connect to the Internet. It's an HP Pavilion, model a1310n, with an AMD processor, running Windows XP Professional 64 bit". This is just basic information that is more often than not printed and/or tagged right on your computer. Now more information might be available, but for a dedicated Expert that's enough for him or her to look up that model, see what kind of networking card or device is native to that model, and get you the proper driver(s) for your computer. If it's a Mac, or if it has a Linux OS, or other operating system let them know. State everything you can about your device. If it's an automotive question, state in detail the symptoms your car is exhibiting. What you may have already tried to do to remedy the problem. Another example might be, "My car won't start. It's a 1996 Ford Taurus with a 3.0 litre engine. The engine will turn over and I know it's getting fuel, but it still won't start".

When asking questions about computers, printers and other peripherals, software programs,or anything that isn't functioning, the same applies. If you're getting error messages these are very important in resolving an issue (e.g. (c0x000002), or Windows is unable to start this program because...?).

Taking a few minutes to gather information and ask a proper question, will not only bring you an answer, it will most likely bring you the right answer the first time, therefore resolving your problem quickly.

So, take time to gather information.

Add as much information as possible to your question, don't simply make a statement.

No detail is too small

If you ask a question in a language other than English, say what country you're from. Many languages are based on other languages (e.g. Tagalog is a mixture of Malay, Spanish, and more). The same applies to Germanic, Cyrillic, and other alphabets. Being a trained linguist I don't mind answering questions in other languages, but at times I'm not sure exactly what language it is without spending time consuming research.

Please don't ask for product keys for software,or passwords to accounts, it's illegal

Also, please don't shoot the messenger. Experts don't enjoy giving bad news but sometimes there just isn't anything to be done and the only way to fix your problem is to simply buy a new product, or pay to have the problem repaired

Remember, we want to solve your problem, but in the end, it's up to the asker to make that happen.

Thank you, and best of luck in solving your problem.
