TV Turns Itself On & OFF with Notepad showing each time
When I plug the set in it will continuously turn itself on & off and every few cycles it will stop cyclin & will show the picture but the notepad is on when it does this & when pushing the notepad to turn it off it will sometimes show only the picture & sometimes it just starts cycling again on & off.
This TV wasn't even 8 months old when it started doing this but Wal-Mart wouldn't honor the return policy on it so I'm stuck now. It wasn't an expensive TV, but it's the principal of the problem and Wal-Mart Not Honoring their Products!!!
I do computer and satellite receiver repair & I feel that this is a Programming problem with the Flash/Eprom chip or somthing of that nature as the capacitors & Circuit board look to be in good shape.

Unplug the tv let sit for a minute while you replace the batteries in the remote and cover the IR remote sensor on the front of the TV. Cover it with a piece of black tape or a piece of aluminum foil.
Plug the tv back in and turn on.
If it no longer turns on and off by itself then you have IR interference from some other remote operated device in the room.
If it does continue to turn on and off with the IR sensor covered then it is the internal wiring/processors and will need servicing.
I currently work in teir 2 support for magnavox philips and this is a service issue i see alot on random sets hope this helps sorry fotr the bad news.. David

I think you might have a bad solder joint in the power supply circuit or a bad solder connection in the horizontal drive circuit.
I've found a few RCA's that had a poor connection on a little inductor coil in the base circuit of the horizontal output transistor. A drop of solder cured this problem.
capacitor problems in power supply or a regulater isolate the power suppley by disconecting the line output stage/unplug scan coils for example and run a 60w bulb as a dummy load one wire to earth and the other to rail voltage colecter of line output transister if the bulb glows steady the power supplys fine
before any attempt to deep cause of problem, unsolder first all the tack switches in the front panel of tv.then turn on the tv using remote control observe? cuz maybe one of the switches is stock.if not, proceed to eeprom servicing which is u have to look for service mode of ur tv model to unlock it and reset it to factory value.
