Question about Dell Dimension 9200 PC Desktop

2 Answers

It "Chirps" From time to time, my 9200 will, well, chirp or beep. Sometimes it'll be about 40F in the house in the morning, first boot, it'll load up into windows and BEEP or CHIRP at me once in a great while. Other times, like tonight, it'll do it fairly constantly. Still other days, it'll do absolutely nothing out of the ordinary at all. All I can localise it down to is the front 1/3 of the case. Otherwise, the system runs like a champ, like it did a year and a half ago when I bought it.

I have exactly the same problem.  A short "Chirp" (less then a second) and then hours noting, and then again.  I've had this issue for more than a year now.  The PC runs very well and I'm 99,99% sure I'm Virus-free.
It's not mechanically from the fan, I'm positively sure of that.

Great if you could help !!!

I do not know how old your Dell is but fans will cherp, eventually they will squeak and if not changed will stop being a fan and cause damage due to over heat of chips. Check your power supply fan, some times they run slow if they are going, also the CPU fan needs to turn all the time. Pull the side cover off and what the main chip fan (CPU fan) see if it runs on start up it should and also some boards such as video boards have fans on the chips. I would suspect a random chip is a fan. Not expensive to replace fans, Very expensive to replace boards or CPU..

My computer doesn't send signal

Whenyou plug in the power cord is there any lights whatsoever on the laptop, wherethe plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of the power cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the computer is trying to boot or may have booted, but the screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous. Most times the problemis with the memory or Video Card. Count the Blinking Lights or Beeps and takenote of their pattern (1 Long or 1 Long followed by 2 Short).

Maybe you have a Static ChargeBuildup. Remove the Power Cord, then Press and Hold the power button for30 seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in and hit thepower button to see if it boots. Maybeyour memory is bad or the memory slot is bad.Removethe Power Cord, Open the Case and remove one of the memory chips. Set thechip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you knowthe memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x on it with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the next memory slot and tryrebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set it aside, then put theother chip in and try booting it in both slots. If it boots, just toverify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and put it into the openmemory chip slot and try booting.

Worked fine last night, discovered it this morning still turned on but no signal to monitor. Rebooted and it began a consistent beeping with no signal to monitor. Unplugged several times to no avail....

the beeping is coming from the cpu.

1 unplug pc
2 pull out ram chips
3 use an eraser to clean the gold, yes thats gold

what happens is the gold on the ram oxidizes and does not connect properly and can go bad but cleaning it with an eraser sometimes works. take a cpu that is working unplu it pull the ram and you will see the same thing your other pc is doing.

4 reinstall ram (correctly)
5 boot up cpu
6 please vote.

Dell Dimension 9200 beeps on startup, with nothing...

A beep code of 3-3-4= Video Memory(RAM) Test Failure that would explain why you get nothing on your screen the first thing you would need to do is disconnect your monitor and try it on another computer. if it works fine then the problem is your video card. If that the case and the video card is intergrated with the motherboard, you will need to repalce the motherboard --- Sorry-- Please vote me a 10 when this works

I have a Dimension 4700 and it will not boot more than half the time. So I did a clean OS install and drivers, updated everything and it was working great. Tried to turn it on this morning and the same...

If you have a Dell, then do this the next time.

As soon as you see your system creating problems again, turn to the back of the computer. There are 4 LED lights. See the status of those lights, I mean, green, orange etc. Check it on support.dell.com and see if you find something useful.

Gateway 831gm not booting. Fans come on but no boot process.

2 questions:
When you say new motherboard do you mean an actual new motherboard or new to that machine, but came from another used model?
When you say you tested the power supply do you mean with a voltmeter/ammeter or put it in another computer and it worked?
I worked on several gateways with similar problems and it boiled down to motherboard issues.
I tested it by replacing the power supply with a bigger (used) power supply and it worked great (for 1 time) and then put the other power supply back in to confirm my diagnosis and yep it wouldn't boot. The next morning I was going to run some virus/malware cleanup and installed the other (known good) power supply and it would not work. I tried all day to get it to boot and it did about twice in a 4 hour period. When it did run it would run great but any attempt to restart it would cause it to crash. No ryhme or reason, it would not fail the same way more than twice. Sometimes beeps, other times no beeps, sometimes it would start up with no video (could hear the Windows starting sounds) other times it would start up normal. I could let it sit and it would start or I could keep trying in sucession and it would eventually start. Some times the fans would slow down from a roar, sometimes they wouldn't. So with a known good power supply that had 150 more watts than the original I diagnosed it as a failed motherboard. But if you have put in a brand new motherboard then I would replace the power supply, because a bad power supply does not mean no power, just not enough power. Please post back and let us know what you find out.

When i have left my laptop off from around 8:20am - 4:00pm, i go to turn it on and it beeps two or three times. Sometimes it starts normal sometimes it doesn't

Kind of a vague problem... Many times on BIOS startup you will get an internal beep, but should not affect your computer from booting normally. When you say it sometimes doesn't start normally, what do you mean by that?
