Hi,

The laptop will operate with or without the battery as long as the AC adapter is plugged in. The purpose of the adapter is both to charge the battery and provide power to the laptop. This is of course assuming that everything else works and has no issue.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

HP Mini 2140 "Plugged in, charging" but not charging

Hello jorel, most likely its a failure of the system board particularly the charging section, a broken pin or a loose terminal. work will be internal, suggest you do away with the battery. its better to operate it at home, or bring the charger with you. Maybe its time to get a new one.

In general terms, if the battery does not charge, it may be required to be replaced. A typical battery will last longer if a series of charge and fully discharge cycles occur. It is not good for the battery to constantly run on AC power.
You can check the above URL's to see about your warranty status and for the Battery if under recall, you will need the product number and the serial number from the laptop.
As far as the laptop shutting down, this may be an overheating problem. The fan may be clogged with dust and debris imparing the flow of air into the laptop, make sure the laptop has good ventilation when operating.

Laptop battery is not charging

Hi, this information represents a basic troubleshooting guideline. Refer to your user guide for specific charging and connection instructions. Manuals may be available online in the Support Web site of HP.

Remove the battery from the computer.
Confirm the battery contacts are free of any foreign material that may prevent charging.
Reinsert the battery into the computer.
Verify that the AC adapter cord is properly connected and plugged directly into a known working AC power outlet.

NOTE: If the battery charges correctly when the AC adapter is plugged directly into an AC power outlet, but not when plugged into a power strip or surge protector, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the computer battery or AC adapter.

Verify the correct AC adapter is being used.
Ensure the AC adapter box power light is on. This will be an illuminated green light.
If the AC adapter power light is not on, the AC adapter and power cord will need to be replaced.
Verify the charging indicator is illuminated on the computer.
If the issue still exists, install a different compatible HP battery, if available.

NOTE: If a replacement battery charges and operates correctly, the problem is with the first battery.

If neither the original nor a replacement battery charges, service may be required for the computer.

Battery will not activate. Replaced battery, charged overnight and it will not power up or operate on battery power.

Your laptop has a faulty charging system with-in the motherboard circuit. You need technical assistance for that defect or better not to use battery for the meantime while using your laptop.

My Hp g60 laptop battery is not working

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, i.e. won't charge to 100% and gradually the charge reduces until the battery won't charge up at all.
OR The battery shows a 100% charge but when the adapter is disconnected the battery drops off to zero capacity in a very short time.
If the battery drops to an unacceptable charge level then the battery needs to be replaced.

Hp zd8000 laptop; new battery shows 100 percent charge, when I unplug power computer powers off and does not operate from the battery. Is there a setting that I need to set?

dear sir,
you didn't mention how long you are using this laptop, i mean that approxmite age of that laptop. problem you mentioned upper can happened for cause given below:-
1) if battery damaged.
2) if battery internal circuit out of order.
3) if battery internal one cell out of order.
open the battery case then if u have proper idea about AVO meter operation then u can check battery by measuring battery current (per cell) plz. then u can find out which battery is out of order, another think is u can check it by replacing saim battery unit.
thanks.

Compaq laptop Evo N410c Battery charging

Hi

First remove the battery and run only on the adapter... If it works fine then there is no problem with adapter...... Charge the battery continuously for 4 hours without seeing the percentage of charging and remove the adapter..... If the laptop runs on battery for 45 mins then it might be the problem with drivers..... Go to device manager and reinstall the drivers if it is less than 45 mins.... Reinstall the drivers either ways...... If still the problem persists.... Go to HP.com and and select software and driver downloads and give the product number.... select the OS... Select HP battery check.... Download the file (sp32299.exe) and click save.... Save file onto the desktop and close the site..... Run the exe file.... If it passes the battery is fine... If fails replace the battery....

The steps might be longer..... But i can assure that it will work
