How do i program tv aND DIRECT TV BOX FROM SCRATCH?

You didn't mention tv make / model so thjis is only a guess . The tv may need tuning to find the direct tv cable.

The only work around you have without a remote is sloppy. If you are patient, give it a go: connect the box to the TV (cable/ant input), turn on the direct TV box, using the TV button panel (here comes the sloppy) fumble your way to the auto-program menu, start auto program. When the auto-program is done, you will have just CH 3 memorized, so the CH -/+ button will only go to that channel. Worst part will be figuring out the buttons on the TV... it can be frustrating. It may take a few tries, that's why I call it sloppy. I hope this was useful, best wishes.

Hi, post the direct TV remote # and the box model # so I can lookup the info for you. you probably already know directTVs remote programming is built into the menu (codes and all).
You did not mention if the DT remote powers the TV on or off?

the tv doesn't need to know that the signal is coming from a dish, so the use of catv while using direct tv should be okay. it seems that the problem may be with where you are making the connection from the direct tv box. plug it in where you would a cable box cable.

You are most likely out of luck using these as universal remotes. You are better off purchasing a Logitech remote and programing it for the Polaroid and your Directv box.
