<p>Bar code symbols are composed of a number of adjacent bars
and spaces of different widths of pre-defined codes. A barcode scanner is used
to read or scan the bar code symbol to represent the information to decode.
Once the symbol is scanned by a handheld reading device or another, can then be
used by computer software to track inventory and perform other functions.

Please check the Symbologies chapter in the LS4000 Guide, you would need to enable the correct length.
The Guide is avalaible here http://support.symbol.com/support/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=3789802apdf&sliceId=&dialogID=189660227&stateId=1%200%20189654325
Hello Metro9. It sounds like something has gone haywire in you unit's configuration. We have the LS4000i manual available on our website. Have a look at it and go to page 5-6 for the "Set All Defaults" barcode. Printing this page and scanning the barcode will reset all of the settings on your LS4000i to it's default settings which are listed on page 5-1. That would be resetting the scanner. If you have any other problems, feel free to send me a message or email and I'll be happy to help. Good luck!
Yes Symbol LS2208 would be the best... it has an intellistand that enables presentation scanning and easy switching between hands free and hand held models..
LS4000i does not work with USB or RS232. It is an undecoded (dumb) scanner you need a LS4004 to work with RS232 and special STI adaptor for anything other then 4006, 4007 and 4008. You can always contact me by phone or email 630-622-2024 [email protected] Please visit our website www.legacyglobal.com
Disconnect the scanner from the mouse port or disconnect the mouse from the scanner. The scanner must be connected to the keyboard port and have a keyboard attached to the scanner.
I also purchased a Symbol LS4071 and when I connected this scanner (purchased at a great discount through eBay) to my computer using the keyboard wedge (with a ps2 connection - the round connector - the connector is split like a "Y") I received the error message that my computer could not recognize this external hardware. I went to barcodediscount.com and ordered the usb connector for this scanner as usb connections are usually recognized. The part # for this connector is STI85-0200R. It cost 72.55 with shipping, but I received the scanner at such a wonderful price that I thought I'd chance it and try it with a usb rather than a keyboard wedge connector. The computer immediately recognized the usb connection, and the usb connector comes with a manual with codes to enable proper scanning, but still no luck getting the data into the computer. So I called Symbol's technical support department. The technician told me to remove the rubber "boot" at the bottom of the hand held scanner (not the scanner base) by pulling on the front of it (where the 2 little round circles are). It's tough to remove, but keep at it. Then gently remove the battery and unplug it, then plug it back in and reattach the base. He said this would reset the battery. Voila!!!! Sucess!!!!
If your scanner's keyboard wedge connection is recognized (a little popup window will say that it is a Symbol barcode scanner and that it is installed and ready to use), try taking the battery out and putting it back in to reset it. Hopefully this will also work for you. Symbol's technical support # is (800) 722-6234.
