I checked on these sites. Thanks for the further information. They don't seem to relate to my Apple G4 PowerBook, but at least they've given me some idea about inverters.

I really appreciate all the comments from people on this site. Sorry to be slow in resonding, but time in Australia is opposite from US. Anyway, I have much more knowledge than I had when I posted the problem. I'm going to have a friend's friend who has an Apple service look it over and give me an estimate on fixing the screen. He's also got some possible replacement panels if it needs one.

    thanks again.

Mac air white screen on start up no boot

it is most likely that your hard disk has a damaged OSX installed, if you get no error codes then it is likely that the video chip has melted the solder due to over heating, try forcing a shut down by holding the power button down for 8 seconds, then holding the option button turn it on again, if you see other options then its a damaged OSX and will need repair, no screen and its main logic board replacement, go to http://www.thebookyard.com/ they are very good at fixing problems mac related and will offer refurbished machines cheep too.

An external mouse will work fine just plug it into one of the usb ports and you should be up and running. If your macbook is still under warranty take it into the apple store and they should replace the trackpad without too much fuss.

According to what I have read this happens quite a lot on some models of macbooks.

If it is out of warranty someone made the following comment on one of the websites I looked at "Simply push ******* the trackpad and apply pressure across the whole surface." But I would recommend not to push too hard as you could totally damage the macbook.

There is a video on youtube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IuYO0I-DY84&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL0437205F5525C959 which shows you how to repair a trackpad

Hope one of these suggestions help you.

Missing operating system toshiba nb100

I wonder if you actually have a Mac OS on your Toshiba laptop, as this is nearly impossible (only for experts): 1) If you purchased from an authorized seller (I doubt it) - return the laptop for replacement.
2) If you can't claim anything from the seller - install the operation system yourself. If your feel being an expert, here are instructions for installing Mas OS on your PC: http://wiki.osx86project.org/wiki/index.php/Installation_Guides and user experience: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t144614.html
3) However, I would recommend you to download, copy to DVD and install a Linux Ubuntu distribution instead: http://www.ubuntu.com/desktop/get-ubuntu/download or purchase Windows from any computer store.

Macbook screen 2/3 blank. like white blind pulled up from bottom.

I would suggest that this is a problem with either the screen, or the connecting cables. There is no easy way to fix this yourself, so I would recommend taking it to an Apple store, or Apple authorised service provider to get a diagnostic of the problem. Apple stores won't charge you to find out what is wrong, so it might be worth checking it out.

Macbook screen is flickering is there anything i can do without going to the store to fix it?

Most likely the LCD inverter board is defective (relatively common). Although, before you go to the store try this: 1. Start your mac in "Safe mode" follow these instructions: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 2. Install the latest OS X (or make an update)

Gmail performs very badly on my mac, frequently unable to load through the firefeox browser. i never have any trouble with any other site, other than gmail.

This is not a "Mac" related problem. It is either network related or browser related. Try logging into Gmail with several browsers. Safari comes built in. Download Opera and try that too.

Good Luck

Hard drive failure

You can contact this companies regarding data recovery. The "Genius" was wrong about the drive being retuned to Apple, that will only occur if you have a system under warranty, and you would be returning it to Apple to avoid being charged.

As far as replacement hard drive going for $325, that too is pretty steep, see this link:
