Question about Televison & Video

4 Answers

I have a Magnavox 15MF400T/37 LCD TV operating with a cabel connection. As of yesterday it has no functions but when I turn it on I get a message that says Attention No Signal. I have checked the cable connection and it is good. I can't get the TV to give me a menu and none of the troubleshooting hints cover this message. I can change channels but after a few seconds, the TV automatically goes to standby mode. when I turn it on again I get the same No Signal message and the screen is black.

I have tried turning the TV on through a DVD player. That does not work either. It is not the cable connection. I have checked that with another TV.

So if the tuner has failed, what does that mean? Does the TV require repair or is it gone?

I have done all that you suggest with the disconnect, cable checks, etc. Still No Signal.

Do the following to test your tv:

Disconnect all devices, including cable, DVD , tuner etc.
Unplug (turning off is not enough ) poer cable from tv for 20 or 30 minutes.
Get a portable aerial, old coaxial cable.
Start tv with only portable aerial and power cable plugged.
If it stays on connect back cable and dvd.
Cable cable carries power along with the signal, cable and sctellite devices sometimes cause similar problems.

In the event that you have a defective tuner, the part itself might not be available but the whole assembly where the tuner is mounted could be available from philips.
If your TV is less then a year old, still under warranty by the manufacturers.

The cost for the repair might not be economical if the entire assembly needs to be replace.

If you have verified that there is a good signal on the cable (try the cable on another TV) then it looks like there is a problem with the tuner. Something in the tuner has failed and the set is detecting a loss of signal.

A defective tuner can be repaired/replaced but it will require a qualified technician to do it. The technician will also have to have access to the replacement parts and a schematic/Interconnect. You will need to take it to a service center and obtain an estimate. You will then be able to determine whether or not it is worth fixing or buying a new unit. If it is under warranrty, your repair will be covered.

Also, if this is a problem that just happened out of the blue, without the user moving the set or bumping the RF input connector, I would still say you have a tuner issue.

A bad RF input connector would be loose. This is more critical if the jack is soldered directly to the main PCB rather than using a cable from the jack to the main PCB.

The user didn't mention if the set had been moved or jarred, so I am assuming the problem just happened without any external influence. If that's the case, then I would try doing a power reset. If that doesn't work, then have the tuner looked it.

Some of the newer TV's dont turn on if there is no input signal. Try a DVD player and see if that works. If it does, then the issue is most likely with the cable jack on the TV, which may need to be replaced..

I NEED A POWER SUPPLY AND CORD FOR A MAGNAVOX 15' LCD TV MODEL NUMBER 15MF400T/37 POWER RATING 12V 3.5A

Either you can get this universal type available inthe market in any electronic spares store or it is easy too make one by yourself if you are familiar with electroncis.
All you need is a mains transformer with secondary voltage at 12 volt and 4 amps capacity, use a bridge rectifier , good storage capacitor of about 4700mfd/25 volts and if possible use a 12 V regulator so that the power is smooth, regulated and protected..

IR reciever in my Magnavox 15MF400T/37 does not respond to the remote.

You basically have to take the tv apart backward to get to the front. Start with the back panel unscrew all the screws. Then you will see the internals. IR sensor should be botton left side if you looking down on it.

Cable for my manavox 15mf400t/37

The tuner and or the IF sections in the TV are going defective, or there is a power supply distribution fault that is effecting the TV's front end. One or both modules, or a board may need to be changed.

Take the set to the Philips authorized service to verfiy and fault and have an estimate.
