Marantz curiosity question

Robotek (SuperTek),
One additional question from a curiosity question. Which Marantz would be better the 1152DC Integrated Amplifier or a Marantz 3600 Preamplifier used with a Marantz 250 Power Amp? I'm thinking the 3600/250 combo would be better if I could get a hold of them. Thanks again Spanky Enjoy your sleep and I'll talk to you tomorrow.

Hi spanky

The pre power combination would be the preffered rig. Has better power output, and more bang for your buck visually with the extra amp to the rack. The meters look great too. If you can go for them, then, do it. I would :) Just let me know which unit you would like to run up and I will photoshop up a rear view to show you how to connect it together. .

Stereo connection

Hi spanky

Sorry for the delays in getting back to you. Been busy here this week.

OK. to connect the 2275 to the 1152,there are 2 ways of going about this.

You can plug the pre- out of the 2275 to the power amp-in of the 1152. In doing this you are using the power amp section of the 1152 and the preamp functions of the 2275. Your other gear like CD player, tape deck and so on also plug into the 2275.

the other(better) way is to plug the pre-out of the 2275 into the tuner inputs of the 1152, leaving the volume at about 40% on the 2275 and use the 1152 as an integrated amp. This means you are using the 2275 as a tuner only. When you do this, you will need to use an RCA lead to jumper the pre-out/poweramp-in connections on the back of the 1152, and the 2275 ... L to L and R to R respectively.

I am still wondering why you want to use 2 integrated amps (each having a preamp and a poweramp section) The only real benefit the 2275 brings to your system will be tuner functions. You could just get a tuner and run the 1152 to be an ideal rig.

Let me know what your ideal setup you are wishing to build would have. Speakers, other gear like CD, tape deck, etc.

Vintage Stereo Connection ???

Hi spanky

Where to start :) I am excited thinking about them :p You got 2 totally cool pieces of classic vintage gear there in the C2 and the Marantz. I have a C2 preamp myself (gathering dust but wont sell it cos its excellent) and the marantz would be totally cool to have(but then I am a little biased towards 70's vintage marantz). They ruled the roost in HiFi amps throughout that decade.

Because they are both integrated amps, you could use them as standalone systems with a pair of speakers, and just plug your favourite gear into them. If you just wanted to run up a nice sounding HiFi, I would sell the kenwood gear and just keep the Marantz. The Kenwood kr1100 has the edge in power, so if it is grunt you are looking for use that. Because vintage sound is all about stereo, you only really need an integrated amp to get great results.

the specs are
# Kenwood Model Eleven G (KR-11000G) Receiver
120W per channel min RMS, both channels driven, at 8 ohms from 20 to 20.000 Hz with no more than 0.03% total harmonic distortion.
Dynamic power output 440W at 4 ohms
Power bandwidth 5 Hz to 70.000 HZ
Frequency response 5 Hz to 100.000 HZ -1.5dB
Signal to noise ratio 115dB

The marantz is a little lower in power at 75rms a channel, but will have the sonic edge in vintage sound over the kr1100. Look them up on ebay and you will find that they do have some value to collectors and people seeking nice tone. There is an 1152 for sale here for AU$900

Best bet is to fire up the 2 integrated amps, and see how they are going. Run them for several hours to be sure there is no strange noises and crackles. Then decide if you want power or finesse.

You could also run both amps from the C2 preamp by connecting to the Amp in connections to the rear of the integrated amps.

happy to talk to you more about it, hit me with a Fixya if my advice was helpful to you. I would keep the marantz, use that and sell the rest and buy some nice speakers:)

I have a Marantz Model 74SR770/02B which needs repair. Preferably a Marantz agent in Western Australia. Help!!

gidday mate!

No problem, here is a list of Authorised service centers. I used to be one here in Brisbane for 12 years until 2002. Bit far to send it however.

If you have any dramas contacting these guys, I ma happy to look into it further for you.

Marantz SR19 AV rcvr.failure

Hi lodorico

Before we get too far, have you tried unplugging the unit from the wall and then firing it up about 20 mins later. This will do a hard reset on the units processor. If the first thing to when a power surge locks up your electronics.

Let me know how you got on.

My Marantz PM-45 integrated amplifier will occasionally cut out by switching off a relay.

Hi HouseofBlues

The problem you are facing is the speaker protection is turning on to prevent the amplifier from damaging your speakers. It will need some service work done to it to prevent it from happening. I suggest you get it attended to sooner than later, as the problem will be caused by dry solder joints that will need to resoldered, or a semicinductor that is failing. If you are a gun with a soldering iron, you could do this yourself. Check about parts of the amp that runs hot, particularly transistors and resistors in the output stages. resolder all output transistors, and any parts that are mounted to a heatsink. Also focus on areas of the PCB that has discoloured. This is often where the problems occur.
I am more than happy to answer any other questions you may have about it, just give me a hoy :)
Thanks for using FixYa, If you consider the advice I have given you as sound, a FixYa rating is a great reward for my efforts to help you. Cheers.

1974 marantz model 2325 reciever and want to hook up a powered subwoofer ?

Hi jdwoomer

BEST WAY
Your amp has PreOut and Main In RCA connectors on the rear, you could make up an adaptor cable (or buy one) to split the post vol control signal at this point, and then use line level from here to drive the sub.

OR

Most powered subs have a speaker "high level" input, where the sub "sniffs" off signal from your speaker output. When setup like this the speakers and amp connect to the back of the Sub.

Either way, you can do it... Marantz were making nice gear back then... a collectable these days :) Any questions, I am here to help.
