Question about Panasonic TH-42PX60U Television
Hi - half the screen is blacked out - the half blacked out portion is half black and half white. TV is less than 2 years old and was barely used. Picture from my camera is too large to attach. Any suggestions? Thanks!
If the screen split is exactly 50/50 top/bottom You are not getting SU or Scan Upper drive.
These are lovely set to work on.
Most likely is SU board itself - Not repairable just to be replaced.
Sorry I work in the UK so I can only guide that the UK part is around £30
SU may have been damaged by failure if the PDP (Plasma Display Panel) but is 9 years only had 2 screens damage the SU board.
There are several setups to do after fitting a PDP. If you don't have the service data - Do not risk it, Reduced life of the Panel and a safety risk.

My 42PV60E just did that same thing.... PanamanNE, I am pretty good with electronics but I have never fixed a TV. I believe with a proper service manual + the part, I could probably do the job (unless I need some additional complex equipment like an oscilloscope...).
Anyway, I would like to buy the part, but I have no starting point in EU.

Same issue just happened to me. However, looking at the instruction booklet, the panel is covered for 2 years. If you purchased this TV with an American Express card, the AE extends the warranty coverage twice as long (up to 2 years). So I'm calling AE tomorrow to see how I can claim the panel. I may have to pay for labor but hey it's better than forking up all the associated cost of replacing the panel.
Just a thought.

Apparently the issue has to do with the panel(s) needing replacement. I was quoted $1,300 by an authorized Panasonic repair company for parts and labor. While looking at Panasonic's parts website (www.pstc.panasonic.com), I see 11 parts relating to a panel, but which were in need of replacement were not clarified by the repair company. The most expensive of the 11 was $95, so I'm not sure how many were shot.
