Panasonic TH-42PX60U PLasma - 1/2 screen blacked out

Hi - half the screen is blacked out - the half blacked out portion is half black and half white. TV is less than 2 years old and was barely used. Picture from my camera is too large to attach. Any suggestions? Thanks!

My Panasonic TH42PZ80U Plasma Television is only a week old and the screen has a blacked out problem. Half the screen shows the picture with good sound while the other half is totally black.

Just happened to me today. I was watching and it sounded as if something fell to the floor (nothing actually fell or disconnected from the back) and now my left side of the screen is perfect and the right side is a half black and half white (50% screen, 25% black, 25% white).

me too- brought it to panasonic repair and they said at least 500 to fix. i've only had the thing for 2 years, but it's now out of warranty. i'm pretty pissed- how common is this defect?

If the screen split is exactly 50/50 top/bottom You are not getting SU or Scan Upper drive.
These are lovely set to work on.
Most likely is SU board itself - Not repairable just to be replaced.
Sorry I work in the UK so I can only guide that the UK part is around £30
SU may have been damaged by failure if the PDP (Plasma Display Panel) but is 9 years only had 2 screens damage the SU board.
There are several setups to do after fitting a PDP. If you don't have the service data - Do not risk it, Reduced life of the Panel and a safety risk.

Thanks, in my case it is the lower half of the screen that's out so I replaced the SD card but tthe issue persists. With the SD card installed - 7 blinks and set immediately powers off. Any other thoughts?

My 42PV60E just did that same thing.... PanamanNE, I am pretty good with electronics but I have never fixed a TV. I believe with a proper service manual + the part, I could probably do the job (unless I need some additional complex equipment like an oscilloscope...).

Anyway, I would like to buy the part, but I have no starting point in EU.

Johnlow, let me know what you find out from AE- I am in the same exact position and bought it with my Amex card too- thanks for posting!

Thanks so much Johnlow- your idea worked! I thought my TV was a complete lost cause since the estimate to replace the panel was $1500 and it was out of warranty by a couple months. But I contacted American Express and since I bought it partially with my AmEx card and partially with a giftcard, they double the length of your manufacturer warranty. Long story short, after suppying a few forms, I got a check from AmEx for $700 which was the amount I had put on the card. I never would have known about this extended warranty with this site and poster Johnlow in particular- so thank you so much! While this doesn't recoup my original costs, plasmas are down in price now and it will allow me to replace my defective set with a comparable one! I am amazed that this worked and I'm putting all big purchases on my AmEx card now and skipping buying the extended warranty. How this all helps someone else in need....

Same issue just happened to me. However, looking at the instruction booklet, the panel is covered for 2 years. If you purchased this TV with an American Express card, the AE extends the warranty coverage twice as long (up to 2 years). So I'm calling AE tomorrow to see how I can claim the panel. I may have to pay for labor but hey it's better than forking up all the associated cost of replacing the panel.
Just a thought.

Apparently the issue has to do with the panel(s) needing replacement. I was quoted $1,300 by an authorized Panasonic repair company for parts and labor. While looking at Panasonic's parts website (www.pstc.panasonic.com), I see 11 parts relating to a panel, but which were in need of replacement were not clarified by the repair company. The most expensive of the 11 was $95, so I'm not sure how many were shot.

if your question is that if cable or sat converter goes off for any reason , will your tv display a black screen , then the answer is yes , without an input most all tv sets will display the opposite of full white , this being full black , also any on screen displays might not work as well (no video to sync too)

LG 55LM4600-UC LED TV I have was squirted with a squirt gun. Would replacing the t-con board fix this tv? Please read further details.

when water shorts out something it overloads a lot of other components so the best advice is to take it in for a proper diagnosis.
you just replace a board but another board is damaged it might just blow the board you replaced and that would prove nothing

Sony Bravia flat screen TV when turned on has black screen. Green light on the bottom is lite up, electric plug is plugged into house socket, no picture only black screen.

If audio is OK, the fault is with its backlight section. If audio too is absent, the fault is with its digital main board. If you wish to get more details visit the site linked here. Pull up older posts.
