Hi Clive, you do not say whether the screen flash is just blue flashing during use or a blue flash and failure. I had a problem with one of my TomTom's and it was like a blue screen of death PC type crash screen.
Try a system reset first, usually a recessed switch accessed via a hole into which you push the end of a paper clip. Resetting never fixes any propper faults in my experience but always worth a try.
The next option is a little more technical. Very carefully open the TomTom. Often there are little rubber bungs hiding small holes, at the bottom of which are tiny screws. Google Youtube and you may find exact details for your particular model. The screws are also often Torx type (like a star) Suitable screwdrivers are available from some mobile phone shops or Maplin Electronics. Having opened the case, disconnect the battery and unplug and re-connect any connectors including any PCB to PCB piggy-back cards. This hopefully will cure the problem. If there are any electrolytic capacitors, then if the unit is old or has been used in very hot weather etc then electrolytic capacitors can leak and swell or burst. If this is the case then they must be replaced which is a job requireing some skill.
