My problem is similar - but it is the bottom element )bake) of the top oven that does not work. We replaced the element, but it still does not heat. Cam't toast, can't "keep warm".

The next step would be to check your wiring and control switch/knob to ensure correct function. You can use a multimeter to check the wiring (with the power off) and a voltage meter to check the control (with power on), be careful high voltage can hurt you badly. Good luck.

Why doesn't GE JBP24 preheat?

Not familiar with this exact range, but it could be a couple of things.

If the broiler (upper) element heats properly and the baking (lower) element works properly, then the issue is probably in the controller/preheat switch.

If the broiler doesn't heat up, then the upper heating element.may need to be replaced.

No heat when set to broil but the bake turns on the broil element. nothing turns on the bake element. are the wires hooked back correctly?

see the next steps and proceed according with commong sense: God bless you
Usually, when an oven won't broil, it's because the broiler element is burned out. The broiler element in an electric oven is the black, pencil-thick tube at the top of the oven. When the broiler is on, the element glows red. This element has an expected life-span of several years. It may last for only one; it may last for many more. When the element burns out, you need to replace it. To determine if the heating element is burned out, watch the part testing video at the bottom of thi

Lower heating element will not heat up

check the element for continuity if there is continuty on the element then you need to replace the electronic control. you can also take the two wire from the bake element and move them up to the broiler element and try to turn on the broiler using the bake button this will confirm bad board or element.
make sure to unplug the unit will doing the wire change and then plug it back in

Is the upper element supposed to heat up when roasting or baking?

Normally, the upper element is the broiler and isn't active during baking. If it was, it could easily burn the tops of baked goods.
It may well turn on during the self-cleaning cycle if so equipped since the temperatures required for the special coating to become active is ~ 900 degrees F and can't be reached by a single element.

My broiler and range work but my "bake" option will not produce any heat??? Please help!!!

If this is an electric range, it sounds like you have a bad bake element in the oven. The broiler and bake features each have their own heating element. Thats why the broiler still works. The following link explains how to replace a heating element in an electric range:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r469407-replacing_bake_or_broil_element_in

If the model range you have this question listed under is correct, the part number for a replacement element is WB44K5012. It lists for about $25 at pcappliancerepair.com.

If you have questions, or if the model number is not correct, please post back with your information so that I may be able to provide you with better assistance.. I hope you find this information helpful.

Bake does not heat up. Broil works though

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that you oven has two heating elements. A lower one for general baking and an upper one for broiling (this means that you don't have a broiler "drawer").

If this is the case, then the problem exists with the pilot/ignition system for the lower heat element.

The systems vary by manufacturer, but the type that I'm familiar with involves and electrical heat element that ignites the gas once it starts glowing. It's possible that a wire has been damaged/disconnected or that the heat element has malfunctioned.

If your oven has a pilot, then it's possible that the pilot went out on the lower element and not the upper. Last option would be an electric "spark" style ignition which may have suffered from the same problems as the electric heat element mentioned above.

Bottom Baking element not working

dmiller58
If all your connections are solid then your controller is defective. Did you get any faults before changing the element? Does the broil (one at the top of the oven) work?

Oven will not heat to requested temperature

Shaffy, When baking only the bake element should heat. When broiling only the broil element (upper) should heat. Your oven is a Kitchenaid, you have a 5 year warranty on any electronic element or control board. You may have a temperature sensor that is not working right. The oven just might need to be calibrated, the instructions would be in your owners manual. Your bake element might be failing, it would have to be ohmed out. You also need to verify that the bake element is getting 240V. when turned on. Catriver...post back
