Hey Lea, Try the steps below to see if they will resolve this issue that you are having with your computer. If this does resolve the issue you can email me. My email address is listed below in my sigfile.
1) UNPLUG THE LAPTOP 2) REMOVE THE BATTERY 3) HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR ABOUT 30 SECONDS TO 2 MINUTES 4) THEN PUT THE BATTERY BACK IN 5) START IT UP..
Are you saying the lcd screen is black? It seems like it booted up but nothing appears on the screen?
Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barelysee the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.
Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can beany kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vgacable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves yourvideo card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you rebootwithout you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN(Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correctkey for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key willnormally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.
If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash lightand nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card isbad.
Try (on the bottom of the laptop) removing the door to the RAM, and pulling one stick out at a time, than starting it, and than the other stick, and starting it. If you still have a black screen, than the motherboard has gone.
have you heard windows opening sound comes up ?
If not try reseat the memory.
If you able to see the something on the screen but it's too
dark to read , it could be backlight inverter problem.
what i learn from compaq DV model they have some
motherboard power up problem such as DV1000 / DV2000 etc..........if your laptop still under warranty i suggest you send
it back to the dealer for warranty.
If windows still boots ( and the original hard drive is still in the computer) you can click the start button and find the HP Recovery Manager under the All Programs list. It is probably tucked away under one of the HP tabs.
If windows doesn't boot, and you still have the original hard drive you can press F11 when your first turn it on at the HP logo screen. It should start the recovery program. (The F key can be different on different laptops but most recent HP's are F11)
Be careful, doing a System Restore will erase all your Data, so backup anything important!
