Yes you can add the lightscribe drive to your system as long as you have an open pay (slot) to hold it. If you have a desktop tower, then most likely you have a slot available either right under or above the current dvd/cd drive.
Just make sure your lightscribe drive has the same interface (SATA or IDE) as your current drive or you might need some cable adapters to make it work.
If your system uses IDE (little metal prongs or pins where the cable plugs into the back of the dvd/cd drive) then you want to set the jumper pin on the back of the dvd drive to CS for cable select. If there is a cable ribbon going to the current drive it will have another connection open that you can use for the new drive. Normally the cable ribbon will allow you to piggy back the two drives.
SATA is the latest technology so if your current drive is SATA, and your lightscribe is SATA then look at the two cables that go into the dvd drive already installed. There might be another set that is not being used that you can hook to the lightscribe drive. If so, hook the set to the back of the drive and into the slots on the motherboard.
I'm going to think it will Not run a SATA Drive, however, it MAY have an open PATA drive slot. There is by default 1 open bay in this machine. Whether there is an open spot to plug the cable in on the motherboard and an extra Plug on the Power Supply for the drive, you will need to open the machine up for. The Connector for the Power Supply is a rectangular 4 Pin plug. This plug is typically black or white and will have 2 corners that are run at an angle. The Data Side of the Connection comes in the form of a Ribbon Cable. There should be 1 running to the hard Drive currently in the machine, but you will need to check and see if has an open slot. There are only ever 2 Slots total on a PATA cable.

You cannot plug an IDE ribbon in the floppy slot (port). The total IDE drives you can install is four (4). But check your jumper configuration. The DVD & DVD/CD-ROM cannot have the same jumper configuration to share the same IDE slot. One has to be MASTER (MS) and the other SLAVE (SL). Or you may put both drives on CABLE SELECT (CS).
The computer needs to be opened up to properly install the CD or DVD drive into the computer. The method for opening the case will vary depending upon the case. Most new systems will use a panel or door on the side of the system while older systems may require the whole cover be removed. Remove and set aside and screws fastening the cover or panel to the computer case and then remove the cover.
Computer cases can generally hold a number of external drives but only a few are generally used. Any unsed drive slot has a cover that prevents dust from entering the computer and makes the case look better. The majority of all CD and DVD drives for computer systems use the IDE interface. This interface can have two devices on a single cable. Each device on the cable must be placed into the appropriate mode for the cable. One drive is listed as the master and the other secondary drive is listed as a slave. This setting is generally handled by one or more jumpers on the back of the drive. Consult the documentation or diagrams on the drive for the location and settings for the drive.
If the CD/DVD drive is going to be installed on an existing cable, the drive needs to be set into the Slave mode. If the drive is going to reside on its own IDE cable alone, the drive should be set to the Master mode.
At this point, the CD/DVD drive needs to be placed into the computer. The method for installing the drive will vary depending on the case. The two most common methods for installing a drive into a case is either through drive rails or directly into the drive cage.
Rails: Place the drive rails onto the side of the drive and fasten it with screws. Drive Cage: Slide the drive into the slot in the case so that the drive bezel is flush with the computer case. When this is done, fasten the drive to the computer case by placing screws into the appropriate slots or holes in the case.
Many people use the CD/DVD drive inside of their computer to listen to audio CDs. In order for this to work, the audio signal from the CD needs to be routed from the drive to the computer audio solution. This is typically handled by a small two wire cable with a standard connector. Plug this cable into the back of the CD/DVD drive. The other end of the cable will plug either into a PC audio card or motherboard depending upon which the computer uses for audio. Plug the cable into the connector labeled as CD Audio.
At this point, the CD/DVD drive needs to be attached to the computer through an IDE cable. For most users, the drive will reside as a secondary drive to the hard drive. If this is the case, locate the free connector on the IDE ribbon cable between the computer and the hard drive and plug it into the drive. If the drive is going to be on its own cable, plug the IDE cable into the motherboard and one of the other connectors of the cable into the CD/DVD drive.
The only internal item left to do for installing the drive is to plug it into the power supply. This is done by locating one of the 4-pin Molex connectors from the power supply and inserting it into the power connector on the CD/DVD drive.
At this point the drive is fully installed into the computer case so it can be closed up. Replace the panel or cover to the computer case. Be sure to fasten the cover or panel back to the case using the screws that were set aside when the cover was removed.
All of the installation steps for the CD or DVD drive are now completed. The only thing left to do is return power to the computer. Plug the AC cord back into the power supply and be sure to flip the switch to the on position.
Well, the CD ribon cable goes into the IDE 2 slot on the Mainboard and the furthest connector on the other end is the master, the second one closest to the board is the Slave connector. The CD drive has a jumper on the back between where the ribbon and the power connector go, on the case some where it should have a diagram showing the jumper setting to put it in as master or slave. Set it accordingly.
Same with Hard drives.
If the Hard drive has a diferent Cable like a SATA, then be sure to get a SATA as the new one.
Now the IDE cables may be bad check them for damage just to be on the safe side.
This is a pretty simple procedure, and is basically the same for any desktop pc. Firstly you need to open the case, MAKE SURE THE POWER IS OFF, find the DVD drive you want to take out, it should have 2 screws on either side or clips. disconnect the ribbon cable carefully. Dont yank at it, if its a little stiff then just wiggle it from side 2 side a little. disconnect the power cable. unscrew the screws and the drive should slide right out. Now on the back of the drive there should be a little connector group with a white jumper on them. in between where the power connects and the ribbon cable connects. Look where that jumper is, then look on the top of the drive, should be a little diagram it will say sometheing like , CS Cable select, Master or slave. Whatever position the jumper is in is where you need to set the jumper for the new drive, Master Cable select or Slave, Not all drives have the jumper in the same position but its pretty easy to identify which setting you need. When you have done the jumper setting on the new drive, slide it into the slot, screw the screws back in, connect the ribbon cable, THE RIBBON CABLE ONLY GOES ONE WAY, if you look at the cable it should have a RED stripe either solid or dashed going down one side of it, the red stripe needs to be plugged in faceing the power suppy thats at the right hand side, If you do this part wrong then you could fry the drive or your pc. WHen you have the ribbon cable plugged in and seated tight, then plug in the power cable. Look at the shape of the connector, it is flat on one side and has 2 rounded edges on the other side, the rounded edges go to the top, you shouldnt be able to plug it in wrong but i have seen it done. Different countries have different colors of cables, if you are in the USA make sure the YELLOW wire is on the outside(RIGHT) in the UK its the RED.
Power back up the computer and you should see the new drive in windows, If you dont then you need to go into the bios and check that the drive has been detected, If it hasnt then its usually the jumper thats giving you the problem.
