Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

I have an Ultimate Care/quiet wash II Whirlpool washer. The tub will fill, but it will not then go on into the agitation cycle on its own. For a while we could push on the left edge of the lid to get it to start agitating. Now that doesn't work either. Today I was able to get it to start by pushing ******* both the left edge and the center of the lid.

Check the pressure switch that shows the lid being could be loose or out of adjustment...or it could have failed.

I have the same problem, and i think it is a problem with the agitator i pulled mine off, (remove softener insert below that is a seal easily removed and then a 7/16'' bolt) seems a 'clutch' mechanism between base and upper agitators is shot.

The ***** part of the agitator is supposed to ratchet in the clockwise direction. this is normal. If you can spin it in either direction (turned off) then you need a set of agitator dogs.
