The easiest way is to open the case and find the sound card, there should be a sticker on it telling you what type of card it is. Sound cards do not usually get plug and play detected.

In Control Panel - System (Devices) you must found the name of sound card. One way is to use linux live CD for that purpose (linux Mint is good). Then you must going to HP site to find driver for that model of laptop with sound chipset, and install it on your computer (it is simple setup). I think that you just need right sound card driver...

Do you know what type of your motherboard..if you know, then you can googling(google) your driver..if you dont know, then you can try update using device manager.

I'm very sure when you view device manager, your adapater will have problem with driver..

Picture show device manager that have problem
(actually, i think your device manager also like this)
riderjunior_3.jpg
You see question mark icon (?) here with yellow?

that mean driver wasn't compatible with that device or it still don't have driver for that.

Solution?
Right click at that icon, properties
then,window will pop up
find driver tab
and update..
it will need more time and internet connection

2nd solution:
you see the name for your device right?
write their name and number full/complete..
and google .find driver..

I have deleted my sound driver accidently I think its a legacy or something. I have tried driver sites but am not confident that once I pay that my problem will be fixed. I am running windows xp

oh!!!
Don't worry that's not a big deal you don't have to pay for drivers. Just follow these steps.
1> Get to know your PC make/manufacturer
2> Get to know the Model Number () its normally located on your PC's casing (i.e. you can find it written somewhere on you CPU's casing or motherboard or the manual you got along with the PC).
3> Go to the Manufacturer's website and search for the SEARCH BAR on that site. Once you have found 1 try searching with these terms "YOUR PC MODEL NUMBER + SOUND DRIVERS" and they'll show you what they got for you.
4> Download the drivers and install them
If you can't find the drivers yourself get back here with the PC MAKE+MODEL NUMBER and I'll send you the download link.
Hope that helps
Please take a moment to gimme a comment
Thanks

My computer has no sound and i don' know how to put sound back on to my computer

Probably a driver problem. Go to device manager and then sound devices and update your sound drivers...Or it could be a problem if the sound card is intergrated. You ca purchsed a pci sound card and fix it. You might want to check the bios and make sure your sound is enabled,,Hope this helps,,,,Darren

Find sound drivers for windows service pack 3 pc help me how to install

Can you find and enter the manufacturer and model of the desktop PC in question? (probably on the computer case) Also can you identify the version of Windows that you are running (3.1, 95, 98, ME, NT4, 2000, XP, Vista, etc). Listing anything you already know about the sound card would also help.

Thanks
