I have an asipre 5251-1005 can i play blu-ray on my laptop

As a follow up to this, what's the easiest way to convert that .mkv file to a more size friendly file? Which program will keep the best quality and what would you suggest as size?

That laptop, the original specs show that it does not have a blu-ray drive in it. Unless somedbody took the original drive out and put a blu-ray drive in the laptop, then it won't play blu-ray's.

That would be why the system keeps asking for dvds.

are you using a software that plays blu rays?

Your dvd drive has to be capable of reading blu-ray discs. The laptop is capable to play Blue ray disc. Refer to manual and rectify the issue.
