I am trying to get some photos off an old computer running Windows 98. I have no CD burner only a couple of USB slots in the back. However when I put a USB Key in the back it does not recognise the key. I...

Ok the file system on windows 98 is called FAT, the file system on newer cmputers is called NTFS, It is forward compatibility but not backword. You need to put in a USB flash Drive also called a thumb drive or stick drive into the win98 machine and check for harware changes using these suggestion.

1. insert the flash drive into usb port
2. right click on "My Computer" > Manage - The Computer Management window popsup.
3. Select Disk Management
4. Locate your Flash Drive at the bottom where it starts with "Disk 0" which is your Hard Drive.
5. Your Flash Drive should say something like "Disk 1, removable", to the right it should have a blue line which means it's a primary partition.
6. If it has a Black line, then it means that the Flash Drive has not been partitioned. To fix this do this:
7. Right click on the black line. It should give you an option to partion it.
8. Go ahead and partition it to FAT or NTFS which ever option you can get or want.
9. Once it is finished, then you will be able to read and write from the Flash Drive.

Let me know if it does not work or if you are having problems.

I think my computer has no virus protection and everytime I try and download some it says I need to download a newer version of windows but also I have to appearently download a newer version of microsoft...

Which version of Windows are you using:
* Windows 95
* Windows 98
* Windows NT
* Windows 2000

Note that as of 13-July-2010, *NONE* of the above Operating Systems are supported by Microsoft. So, some anti-virus programs will *NOT* run on those "retired" Operating Systems;
you need to install a newer version of Microsoft Windows.

From another computer with Internet access,
download the FREE anti-virus software:

http://www.Microsoft.com/security_essentials

and copy the downloaded file to a USB memory-stick.

Move the memory-stick to your computer, and connect it.
Run the downloaded program on that memory stick, to install the anti-virus software onto your computer.

No drivers came with the 4GB HP usb flash drive v125w I just purchased. I can not find them on HP web site. Need for Win Xp. Help

Windows 98 has no support for newer USB flash-drives.

Windows XP has full support for newer USB flash-drives -- if it cannot find the driver on your 'C:' disk, it will access the Internet to download the drivers from Microsoft's web-site, automatically.

I am trying to save data from an old computer that uses Windows 98 to a data stick through a USB por but am told it does not have a device driver

well...the new flash drives or usb drives are not compatible with windows 98 nemore buddy..

i wuld suggest either try to search for the device drivers on interent, which wuld be hard to find for sure

OR

take this hard disk, connect this with some other computer with another operating system, copy all data easily then.

I need drive for transcend d33193 usbdrive

I think this is a Windows 98 forum. If so, I may have a solution.

Download and install this free (Generic Storage USB Device) driver named "wtgenusb-zip" from DriverGuide.com. Register with DriverGuide.com for free membership. Use their search tools using keywords like "Window 98", "USB", "Storage" and look for "wtgenusb-zip".

It's a rediculously small file to download, only 11Kb. The "zip" file must be extracted which can be done on any computer running Windows XP, then copy the files over on a floppy disk. However extracting it on a computer running Windows 98 will require a seperate program like "Winzip" or "Pkunzip" (for DOS).

Copy the extracted files to any folder of your choice on your Win98 machine. Use the "Install Hardware Wizard" to navigate to that folder to install the driver to enable your USB storage device.

WTGENUSB worked great for me, permitting my Win98 to access my USB Flash drives, 250Gb Portable hard drive, and Digital Camera card reader. Good luck.

Drivers for sony cybershot for windows vista

There are no drivers for Windows Vista for this camera, nor are there drivers for anything past Windows 98.

If you have a new computer with Vista loaded into it there is a slot for the memory stick in the front. Regardless of the computer the slot should read MS/PRO/DUO. Slip your memory stick in and a screen will pop up showing DRIVE H Memory stick and download from there.

If you have an older computer and upgraded to Windows Vistat there is an adapter you can buy that your memory stick slips into and then plug it in your USB slot. Software needs to be downloaded first from the site prescribed on the package.

I spent over 3 hours today trying to find drivers like you did until I got online and did a chat with a Tech from Sony. Its so simple its silly stupid. Had the slot right in front on my Dell Inspiron PC DUH !!! Good luck Same for Windows 2000 XP, with service pack 3 or 2 or anything past Windows 98 Hope this helps, it worked in a flash once I found out what to do.
