Question about Canon Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have canon Pixma mp780. The scanner does not give me the option where I want to scan. When I press scan only OMNIPage appears to work. I can't have access to the other modes of scanning. What is the problem and how can I fix it? Thanks Nas

You need to change the default program that is called when you press the Start button. Right now it is set for OmniPage. Go to this link, and in the Search window in the center of the page type "scan using the buttons". Click the Search button, then click on the "How do I scan using the buttons" link. You will get step-by-step instructions for changing the default program. Select Scan Gear Starter or MP Navigator for most purposes.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Own windows 7and no scan with canon prixma MP780

Your MP780 should be able to scan with Windows 7. I presume you can print ok.
Look in your programs for a program called MP Navigator. This is the scanning software Canon use on most of the printer/scanners. If you do not have it then you can download it free from Canons website. Its very simple to use and hopefully that should solve your problem.

I want to scan a paper and i want to save it as word so that i modify it. How can i do it?

It depends on if you have the full software installed. The MP160 documentation indicates it came wth ScanSoft OmniPage SE. Open MP Navigator and choose this program, you can output the scan as a text file. If you did a custom install, you may or may not have installed the program. If you omitted the program, do a new custom install.
OmniPage is an OCR program and will output to a number of formats (you will choose File, Save as) after scanning. Word can import RTF and most other choices as well as .doc files.

If you don't have the software disc, the software can be obtained from this URL:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=13368

Alternatively, there is a free OCR program (simpleOCR.com) that will do the same thing. However it doesn't handle text in columns (newspaper or magazines) very well.

I hope this helps.

How to scan and edit text document

You must use an OCR (Optical Character Recognition) program

Run the "ScanSoft OmniPage" software that came with your printer.
Load the document into the scanner and "acquire" the document through OmniPage.
The pictures will not show up and the text may not be 100% accurate.
Run the resulting document into your wordprocessor (MS Word? or Works?), and run spellcheck.

(2) Check the connection

and SPCNT board (JCCD1).
(3) Replace the SCANNER

(4) Replace the SPCNT board

Scanner problem

I presume your new laptop came with Vista and your old one had XP. Either convert your new laptop to XP (complicated but I wish I'd done it when I got my new computer rather than soldiering on with the indescribable rubbish system that is Vista), or install all the latest drivers, and MP Navigator. loads of the other stuff on the canon installation disk just won't work with Vista. If you have Omnipage SE installed, you will have to get an email link from Canon, whose support website leaves a lot to be desired.
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=334&modelid=10444
Or go to canon europe whose site is not as good (weird to see Canon not going for the simple idea of global support)
I just bought a new full version of Omnipage, but it does annoy me that so soon after buying the MP780 I had to go to all that trouble.

Canon PIXMA MP780 All-in-One Printer, etc.

Is this scanner installed onto a Vista computer?

In some cases the scan button may not operate without a memory resident program installed.

It will work by selecting my computer and selecting the scanner on the window. By double clicking on it, it will scan whatever is on the glass.
