Then they sold you a battery, that was on the shelf for years, or the contacts in your rangefinder are not clean and shiny. If so, you could try to clean the contacts with a dry cloth. Never use anything sharp on contacts, because that will damage the apparatus and will make the rangefinder unusabl
I also lost the battery cap for the LR550. I signed up for an account on Nikon.com and asked how to get a replacement through the "Service and Support" section. Very delighted to report that they immediately FEDEXed a replacement part - free of charge!!! Love my range finder, disappointed that the cap fell out but impressed with the service. Will put some tape over the battery cap from now on.
This happend to me not long ago and I called Busnell North America and they asked me what type of range finder I had and sent me a new one...NO CHARGE!!
