It may be a bad touchpad, but some laptops have a button to turn off the trackpad. I have a laptop that does this. It could be a dedicated button or it can be accessed by holding down the FN key in the lower right of the keyboard and pressing one of the Function keys above the number key row at the top. It probably has some obscure icon but should look like a trackpad or mouse. Try hold the FN key and pressing one of those if you don't have a dedicated button there.
Computer that have touch pads as m,anufacturers default malfunctions soon after another program has been installed capable of converting touch back to type keyboard functions. Unplug any devices that may want to reconvert the touch screen computer to keyboard typing. Second, if the computer has a system restore of reset button, that would reestablish the manufacturers default touch screen features. meanwhile, evry data that may have been stored on the computer is likely erased after reseting. Save every details before reseting the computer.
