Washing machine not draining after first wash cycle

Hi - I hope to get help with what might be wrong with my F&P 6kg top loader (now 6 years old but till now working fine). It finshes the first wash then seems to get stuck and not drain to the rinse stage. The wash water is still in the drum, and I can hear the machine trying to drain but it can't. The machine then beeps until I power off. At the moment I'm faced with bailing the water out with a saucepan and retrieving my clothes. Any help??! Thanks. James

Hi,

The machine will not continue to the next stage since it has not sensed that the water has been drained completely. Often drain problems could be of any of four (4) possibilities (depends on regional version which ones are in your washer);
drain filter,
drain valve;
drain pump and/or impeller;
drain hose.
All of the above would have similar problem, clogged or blocked. To check/clean, the machine has to emptied, tipped slightly over on its back and the front (lower) panel removed to have access to the bottom of the tub. Often these components would be at the lowest part, bottom of the tub/drum and would eventually lead to the drain hose. It would then be a matter of dismantling them and clearing any debris or objects causing the blockage. In some instances, the valve or the motor could be defective and would require replacement. At other times, it could be the the impeller could have broken vanes or be stopped again by debris or objects.

Repairs of this nature would require that you be prepared with cleaning materials since often, there would be waste water left thereabouts.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Greetings,

If you can open the washer, check the drain pipe cause there is something blocking the water.

The washer's drain function is still working as you can hear it trying.

Keep us posted and thank you for using our service.

My 6kg tempo top loader washing machine won't drain or spin . Would you know what may be stopping it from doing that ?

Could be lid switch thinks lid is up. Or timer contacts defective for drain and spin functions. Or bad pump, or bad solenoid for drain function.

My GE top load washer is about 5 months old. It fills up and runs through the agitation cycle but then stops at the end spin cycle. The clothes just sit in the water. I checked the hose for kinks and...

I have had this problem with two of my previous washers a top loader and front loader.Each time it was a faulty pump that drains the water from the tub after the wash cycle is complete. If the water does not drain from the tub the machine will not go to the spin cycle. Both of my washers were 5 or 6 years old when this occurred. If the washer is only 5 months old it should be under the manufactures warranty. Good Luck.

Your question is not easy to answer. An average washing machine is 8 kg. The smaller 6 kg will use less water and detergent, but you will be limited to 4 or 5 pair of jeans at one time...unless your children are small. A front loading machine may be a better choice for you. It can do very large loads, 12 kg, and still use less water and detergent than most top loaders, but be prepared to pay three times the price of a top loader.

Washing Machine smells after washing completed why is this

problem occurs due to cool washes(i.e. 40c and under) not destroying bacteria from clothing/detergent which then breeds inside your machine, therefore creating a sometimes sulpherous or musty smell.
i would advise you to regularly do a hot wash(minimun 60c) with an old towel, soda crystals and washing machine bleach i.e. vanish, ace etc with an old towel in the drum to move the mixture around. if you keep up with this the smell will eventually go away.
you can buy limescale/detergent removal powders which will do the same job.
hope you find this useful.

Frigidaire front loader

Can you hear the motor running? If so it will be the belt. If not simple could be the wiring..connection at the motor or broken wire. Brush's..very common at about 4-6 years depending on usage. or the controller.
