Question about Acer PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have an ACER FERRARI laptop. When power plugged in battery light shows, and light also indicates full charge therefore I assume ac lead and battery ok. When pressing start button nothing happens, apart from light next to power/battery light comes on for about 1 second. I assume motherboard damaged?

The charger might have the problem, and the light that you are seeing apart from the light next to power/battery is the hard disk led, this is showing that HDD is active, your motherboard is not damaged. you might want to check if you need to defrag the Hard disk by right clicking my computer then selecting manage, there you may analyze whether it needs to defrag. now you may check the charger if its chrging by clicking in the taskbar.

How to fix power button

Pam,

The problem is probably not the power button. If you have the AC adapter plugged in but you do not see any lights indicating that there is power reaching the laptop (such as the light that indicates that the battery is charging), chances are that you have a bad motherboard. The other possibility is that you have a broken DC power jack (where the AC adapter plugs into the laptop). Neither the motherboard nor the power jack are user-repairable issues. My advice would be to take this unit to a local professional computer repair center and have it evaluated.

XPS M1210 Laptop not powering up

No Power Issues on Laptops

There are 3 things to consider in order for you to determine a No Power Issue

1. Battery
2. Mother Board
3. AC Adapter

1. Remove the battery from the laptop

2. Disconnect all non essential cables (external hard drive, usb memory key, printer...etc.)just connect the AC Adapter

3. Take out the Battery....Usually there is a battery indicator that you can push at the back of the battery

4. By Now the battery power indicator should be full since it was never taken out

5. If still theres no light on the battery.... replace battery

6. Turn the laptop on without the battery

7. If the computer still did not turned on check the AC Adapter if there is light coming out

8. If there's no light that comes out from the AC Adapter. Reseat the cable from the AC Adapter to the Cord

9. Check if there is no light that comes out from the AC Adapter. AC adapter needs to be replaced

10. Otherwise the Mother Board needs replacing

I HAVE A LAPTOP ACER AND THE POWER DOES NOT TURN ON

It could be a battery problem. Try switching to AC mode by plugging in to an AC outlet using your Acer power chord (battery charger also). If the charger led don't light, it means it's defective and it can't charge your battery. Please try another power chord or battery charger then. Just remember to take out your battery when using your laptop in AC mode to lengthen your battery life. Regards!

Please take out the battery, and use the AC adapter to boot up only, then put the battery on.
If any abnormal situation occurs, please do a battery calibration as instructed in the manual. Adapter info:
Power problems with AC adapter
Step1 :

Please remove the battery first to verify the AC adapter's problem
Step2 :

Please check the power outlet on the wall by plug another device to the outlet
Step3 :

Please plug the adapter directly to the power outlet on the wall
Step4 :

Please make sure both the wires between the adapter to the wall and to the notebook are well plugged and the LED on the adapter is alight
Step5 :

Please check the power status indicator to make sure whether the notebook is powered on
Step6 :

Please make sure whether the CPU fan perform the testing run when the power is switched on
Step7 :

Please stick into the hardware reset button at the bottom of the machine and reboot
Step8 :

Please remove all of the removable hardware (exp. mouse, PCMCIA card, power adapter, battery, external drives, memory and etc) and install only the necessary components.
Step9 :

Please remove the AC adapter and re-install the battery
Step10 :

Please make sure whether the CPU fan perform the testing run when the power is switched on
Step11 :

If possible, please change another battery to make sure whether it's the battery's problem
Step12 :

Please check the power status indicator to make sure whether the notebook is powered on

Acer laptop shut of during power outage .

From the Acer website:

Issue
Power Issues or Will not Boot
Solution
If the notebook does not power on:

Make sure the ac adapter is correctly plugged into the notebook and into the power cord.

If everything is plugged in correctly and it still will not power on, follow these steps to complete a ‘power reset' of the notebook.
  1. Unplug the ac adapter. Keep ac adapter unplugged.
  2. Remove the battery and keep the battery unplugged.
  3. Hold the power button down for 15-20 seconds. (Nothing will appear on the display and none of the lights will light up.)
  4. Release the power button and plug in the ac adapter ONLY. (Please note that a power indicator light should be lit on the ac adapter when it is plugged in).
  5. Normally power on the notebook.
  6. If the unit does not power on, remove the ac adapter and insert the battery into the system.
  7. Plug the ac adapter back into the system, the battery charging indicator light will light up.
If the battery charging indicator light does not light up, the ac adapter may not be providing proper power to the unit, and may need to be replaced.
Also, depending on whether your power went down "clean" (quick and stayed off), or went down and quickly came back on and off many times. Or when it came back on "clean" (came back on quick and stayed on), or it came on then off many times, your power supply may have been damaged from the power surges Are you having any problems with any other appliances?

Acer aspire 4920 charging mechanism failed

Most laptops, as in 99%, have one board and everything is on it. They don't really have a power supply since the AC adpater provides DC voltage already. There is just a voltage divider that take the incomming voltage and changes it to the various voltages the machine needs. The charging mechanism is also on the mainboard. I've very seldom seen a seperate power or charging board in a laptop. Unfortunately since you've already replaced the battery and the ac adapter and since the adapter is powering the laptop then there is definitely a problem with the charging circuitry on the mainboard. This isn't something one can repair unless you start changing micro components and ICs on the board which isn't recommended. Looks like a new mainboard or a new laptop is in your future if you want it to run off battery.

Another option is to get an external battery that mimics your ac adapter but that wouldn't give you a very long run time compared to the internal battery.

Don't forget to rate my solution in your premium thread as FixYa if you think I helped solve your problem. Thanks.

Acer aspire 4920g charging mechanism failed

Have you tested the adapter to see if there is any power getting to your notebook period. Use a multimeter to check for DV voltage. If you can't get your multimeter probe into the middle of the plug then I use a paper click to get in there. If your adapter is not supplying any voltage then there is a problem with it. I get a replacement adapter for my wife's Acer on eBay for about $30. Just search eBay for 4920g and you should get quite a few hits for the ac adapter or power cord.

If the adapter is providing power then the motherboard in your notebook is faulty since you've already replaced the battery. A replacement motherboard might be available from eBay. Replacing the motherboard could be complicated depending on your experience so I would leave that up to a notebook technician. An Acer certified shop may also be able to sell you a replacement motherboard.

I don't think it's the motherboard, my money is on the adapter. Test it out or have it tested.

Acer extensa 4620Z laptop computer will not re-charge battery. The cord going to the outlet has power...green light...but no lights are on lap top and it is securely pluged into lap top. - When I...

It could be one of three things. It could be a bad battery, a bad ac adapter, or the recharging circuitry could be bad. I would try pulling the battery out, and see if the laptop will startup and run strictly off of the ac adapter. If that does not work, you have a bad ac adapter. If that works, and the battery has any charge left, try running it strictly on the battery. If it doesnt work, you have a bad battery. If it does work, the circuitry is bad and you will probably need new motherboard. One other thing you can check is where the ac adapter and battery plug into the laptop, and make sure there is no corrosion that could be causing a short.
