The situation: My old cable box was constantly

You have reversed polarity in your outlet and probably not grounded. If you have any voltage setting on the ground of the hdmi then its your home electrical at fault. If you take the extension cord and reverse the plug from the tv to the ext cord you will probably not find any voltage on the hdmi.I know the neutral is wider but you can make it fit just to test. We ran into this years ago when cable boxes came out with older homes.

MY TV JUST WENT OUT W/O NOTICE AND I HEAR A HUMMING SOUND

Sound's like your tv just died on you. It will probably cost more to fix it then to replace it.
Buzzing is a common defect among plasma TVs regardless of brand. The buzzing you are hearing is probably a sign of a defective board or power supply or something similar. Either way, you'll need to fix it or get a new television set.
I know plasma television's are cheaper for larger sized sets but I never recommend plasma's to any of my customer's unless they are buying it for a large sized darker room (such as an in-house theater)
If you want a good, bright, clear picture I would stick with an LCD. If you want a higher end you could go with an LED. They both offer less glare than the plasma plus they are better to use with HD devices such as blu-rays & viideo game systems.

Transporting plasma home something hit the screen now the tv is not working. It is a sony 106cm plasma. Can this be fixed and be cost effective or better to buy a new one

If you damaged the plasma display, the job willbe over $1000, depending on the model.

If you damaged a different part, the repair wont be less than $200 in the best case.

I suggest to call the manufacturer and ask the cost for a warranty extension.

A warranty extension costs usually less than one single repair ($200 or less for an average plasma TV), and will cover all repairs for one year.

If you want to call the manufacturer you can use the phone number listed on the owner manual.

I bought a 32" conia tv and i cant get good reception! i have bought a amplified antenna and a hd set top box and still no good reception. my other tv's in the smae spot have had no reception issues....

well it's the same as the days of old, the antenna has a range of reception. the further the sations antenna, the lager your antenna must be. just because you bought an amplified antenna does not mean you will receive the deep fringe station. also the antenna must be UHF and VHF to receive the broadcast in digital. most of the braodcasters have gone with the UHF band because it is more stable for the bandwith of digital broadcast. the UHF band is very directional as well, so you must be pointing to the broadcasters antenna. no set top antenna will work if you are further than 15 miles of the broadcasters antenna. the roof top UHF/VHF antenna with a preamp is the way to go. I have tested every compact antenna and unless you live in the city that the broadcast generates you will get no reception with these. terks are junk, and any small amplified antenna does not work if you are in low lying areas. roof top, roof top,.....ROOF TOP!!!!!
