PSP comes on and plays fine then the screen goes black?

PSP comes on and plays fine then the screen goes black but the sound and buttons still work. We end up having to turn it off then back on and it does it again. Any idea whats wrong with it or how it can be fixed? Thanks

I'm having the same problems with the PSP display going to black (color appears and then it goes from right to left black). I've change the settings (Backlight Auto-Off & Auto Sleep to off) and have downloaded the firmware as listed on this site; however it the LCD still fades to black.

before this happened my psp was working fine but i dont know how but after 2 months (i bought my psp in july) when i turn my psp on the psp screen goes blank

I have the same issue with my son's PSP.

I have reset back to factory settings and turned the screensave and backlit setting off. It will come on, and even start to play a game, then it fades to black. The sound will stay on. If I turn it off and on, then sometimes it will be fine for a minute then go out again, or it will be lo-res looking, with the image looking doubled and offset by a couple of pixels.

Not sure what to do! Doesn't seem like a screen problem since it does come on, but that seems to be the commonly suggested fix. The system is 3.7.1. Not sure if I should upgrade

I am having the same problem.  The screen will intermittently come on as blurry.  Like all the text and graphics are doubled, but off by a few pixels.  Doing a sleep and turning it back on usually fixes it.  But I can not operate my PSP for more than like 10 seconds to a minute (varying) until the screen freezes and fades to black from right to left.  This usually occurs by pressing any of the buttons on the front panel.  If I am reading the news in the browser for instance and it is just sitting there, it is fine, then the second I hit a button, fades to black.  After it fades to black, sound and buttons continue to work.  I figured it was a bad LCD, so I purchased a brand new OEM LCD screen and installed it, however, the problem still persists with the new LCD screen, so it is not the screen itself.

My present firmware is 5.0 m33 but this problem has been happening since 3.80.  I have done a clean install with both original firmware and custom firmware, but the problem persists... as I have said, it is not the screen itself as I have already purchased a brand new OEM screen with the same results.

you are trying to play backed up games which are only playable on a softmodded psp. Sorry, but they will not work on a non-modded psp.

Directional buttons work fine, until I start playing a game

Ok. navigate to system settings and scroll down to RESTORE SYSTEM SETTINGS, after that turn off your psp and wait for about 3 minutes and turn it back on.
Write back if this doesn't help.

Your PSP may have a loose connection from the screen to the actual board of the PSP. You can send your PSP to Sony Tech Support. More info at esupport.sony.com

PSP SCREEN FLICKERS AND GOES SLOW IN MAIN MENU

Ok...this sounds crazy but it happened to one of my PSPs. I updated the firmware on my system and the menu started stalling and taking a long time to respond. I shut the PSP all the way down....holding the power button until the light shuts off (about 4 or 5 seconds)...Hold the R button and power the system on again (you should be in recovery mode)...go to CPU speed and make sure it is either set at "Default" or "222"....I belive 222 is the default setting....also make sure the UMD is also set at "Default" or 222....if you're going to use the UMD.
