There may be a number of issues that contribute to your game not loading, or freezing up when trying to play. Please try the following:

1. Confirm the disc is clean. To clean a disc, use lint-free cleaning cloths made specifically for cleaning CD/DVD discs, sold at computer software stores. When cleaning the disc, we recommend starting from the innermost circle, and wiping out to the edge in a straight line.

We do not recommend wiping in a circular motion, as it may create more scratches on the disc.

**Note: Other materials, such as a paper towel or a T-shirt, may also scratch the disc. If there are any scratches, smudges, or fingerprints on the disc, it may not function properly. Also, do not use or insert any CD/DVD drive cleaners into the Playstation 3 as doing so may cause damage to the system.

2. Confirm that you have updated the Playstation 3 computer entertainment system with the most recent system software . You can check the version you have installed on your Playstation 3 by selecting:

* Settings.
* Then System Settings.
* Then System Information.

3. Some Playstation or Playstation 2 format software titles may perform differently on the PS3 system. To identify the compatibility status1 of a specific title, please use the Backward Compatibility Status Search provided by Sony.
http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

4. Try playing different CDs, DVDs, and games on the Playstation 3 console to see if the problem exists across multiple discs. Also try playing the disc on a different Playstation 3 console.

5. Confirm that you are not using any game modification devices. Unlicensed devices such as game modification devices can interfere with the proper function of the software. We do not recommend the use of any game modification devices or unlicensed products.

Turn off the BD 1080p 24Hz Output(HDMI) option. If the Blu-ray DiscTM does not support 1080p 24Hz video mode, the video output may not display properly. Go to [BD 1080p 24Hz Output(HDMI)] under [Settings] > [BD/DVD Settings] and select "Off".

6. Confirm that the disc you want to play is supported by the PS3 system.

The PS3 system will support the following media formats*:
Media Formats Supported on the Playstation 3 console

PLAYSTATION®3 format software with either region [1] or [ALL] a
Playstation 2 format software (NTSC U/C standard) - (Not supported on the 40GB model)
Playstation format software (NTSC U/C standard)
Audio CDs, CD-R/-RW, Super Audio CDs b, c
DVD Video with either region [1] or [ALL] a
DVD-R/-RW, DVD+R/+RW a, c
Blu-ray DiscTM (BD) containing video content with region code [A] e
BD-ROM, BD-R, BD-RE c, d, e

a - When outputting DVD content or Playstation 3 format software in SD resolution, only discs recorded in the NTSC standard can be played.
b - Multi-channel Super Audio CD playback requires a multi-channel audio receiver with HDMI input.
c - Playback only.
d - Playback of BD-RE ver 1.0 discs is not supported.
e - Copyright-protected Blu-ray video discs can only be output at 1080p using an HDMI cable connected to a device that is compatible with the HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) standard.

* The 40GB Playstation 3 model does not support SACD.

PS3 began freezing after 10 mins

Your PS3 blu-ray laser, the blu-ray portion at least, has failed.

This is the #1 problem PS3 users face, it's due to a Sony defect.

New ps3 turns all of my blu-ray movies into a pink screen

On the XMB go to Settings ---> BD/DVD Settings ---> BD 1080p 24 Hz Output (HDMI)

Give that a shot, and if not poke around a bit and ultimately you could do a system restore as well. Not sure if those will solve your problem, but it's a good place to start.

PS3 WON'T PLAY BLU-RAY DISCS

The problem is all in the settings. You probably have a 1080i television that cannot display in 1080p. To fix this go to the main menu and go to:

Settings:

Video Settings

Then Blu Ray Disc and make it turn the Display BD in 1080p 24hz or whatever. Once you do that, start the Blu Ray Disc again, and you should be able to watch it. This all happened because your tv doesn't display 1080p.

Hope this helps!

Ps3 not playing blu ray on my samsung LCD

Change the frame rate on your tv to 60hd, that should solve it. Basically, your tv might be set to theater mode which is playing 24hd..

first you need to make sure that the refresh rate hz of the 'blue-ray' are set to the same as the tv and that your tv supports 1080P the PS3 will back clock to 1080i for games but not for the 'blue-ray'

My playstation 3 will not play any blue ray dics at all

Heres the problem ladies, Your system is at its end. Wear and tear has screwed it. I am a game system repair tech and I am experiencing the same issue. You can try a few methods. Clean the dvd rom with a cd cleaning device. Tip it on its side. Vert seems to work cause of a less friction spin. Some tv's will support massive resolutions and the software won't. This seems to be a major issue in the ps3. See it auto detects that nice 1080p or what not your tv has but some times the software will wig about that and not perform. Try turning down your massive resolution to a more practical one. The issue I am having is that the CD's, DVD's, and even my pirated stuff runs like gold but nothing blue ray works at all. This is caused by either the reading device just kicking the bucket or because the drivers have some how been diverted. Some install you have done homebrew. The more likely issue is that it just died. Sorry... Sony kicks all sorts of ****. The PS3 is the only gaming solution. So don't get mad at its problems. It has very few issues. But this is one of them. PS2 had the same problem. Remember having to tip it on its side to get it to work... same thing here. Why you have to do that is because the eye is having issue rendering a complete line of code from what it is reading. Could have been knocked slightly out of place, could be dirty or filmy, could have just been probed by an alien and is offended by that and doesn't won't to work any more. Either way you have to face facts, it is dead. Here's the fix. Send it to Sony. If you are still under warranty you will get it back soon with no cost to you and it will work perfect (till this happens again). If you aren't under warranty, it will cost about $150 US but it will work and be cheaper then buying a new one. The other fix is that you could replace it yourself. It would require a new eye and a specialized screwdriver. The eye will cost alot more then $150 and the screwdriver isn't something you can get at a hardware store and cost alot too. So if you want to play the Blue ray disc you just need to get that thing back to Sony and they will replace it. If you have the original one and you are saving it like I am. Will it is now ready to be placed on its shelf to forever collect dust. You of course could figure out how to run discless ISO's but again if you knew how to do this you would be able to figure out that your PS3 is toasted and needs a replacement eye.

Games run on hdmi, but not Blu-ray movies

You most likely have the updated drivers. You may have to go and change a setting. I found an answer on the PS3 website that may be of some use to you. I hope this helps you: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&message.id=1662191 From the site: "go to bd/dvd setting and set the "108024hz" option off"
