Question about HP PSC 1610 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

When making a scan or a photo copy it it prints a one inch wide black line down the middle of the page. This does not happen if a print is made from the computer. It's frustrating because the printer has very little use. Your assistance would be appreciated

Whether Scanning or making a Copy there is a 4" line down the left side of the entire length of the page.

When I scan something I have 1/2-1 inch black line down the left side of the page. So I can only scan something that I can edit the back line out. I have looked in the scanner, on the lid, and anywhere else I can think of but there is nothing there. I have no idea why it started this. My unit is a little over 2 years old.

Try to check if there is something that you should remove from the inside top cover of the scanner

it may be due to either malfunctioning of the scanner tube within the printer itself or whenever you copy a certain page the lid is not properly pace resulting to excess light on that side giving you black line when the copying is in process

Black line is present when copying document; not

This sounds as if you have some ink/contamination on the small scaning glass that sits to either the left or right of the main glass on the copier.(Depending on the model/make)As your original is scanned over this thin piece of glass the scanning device will see any spots and this will result in a black line down the page. Please clean the glass with a soft rag.

Copies and faxes come out with 5 inch black area over whole page

Does this same thing happen if you just print a report out of it?

Here's the logic behind this.

If it happens on scanning or copying, but not on printing that's a problem with the scanning section.

If it happens on everything (scanning, printing etc) that's a problem with in the printer controls.

Usually on lasers, if it's printing related, the first thing to do is change the toner.
If the imaging drum (which is part of the toner cartridge) is damaged, it will leave lines down the page.
This is a fairly common problem on refilled toners.

If you have changed the toner, and it still does it, it's a different problem.

Is this happening when you print or when you scan? If when scaning you could have something on the scanner bed... If this is happening when you print, it could be the cartride is defective.
