Most antivirus packages do not require any additional configuration after installation.

Depending on the package you are using, you may want to change the schedule of getting new virus definitions (some people do this daily) and when a full scan is run on your machine (Do this at least weekly, at a time when your computer is on, and you're not using it. I do my machine at home on Mondays at 12 noon.)

If you're not sure how to change the settings, tell me the name of your AV program, and I'll give you some tips.

Good Luck

Antivirus testing

Testing Antivirus ----------------------------- You can verify that antivirus works properly with the help of a special test file, known as EICAR Standard Anti-virus Test file. (EICAR stands for the European Institute of Computer Anti-virus Research). This is a dummy file, which is also detected by other anti-virus products.
No need to worry, because this file is not a real virus. All that EICAR.COM does when executed is to display the text 'EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE' and exit.

However, the file can be created using any text editor, provided the file is saved in standard MS-DOS ASCII format and is 68 bytes long. It might also be 70 bytes if the editor puts a CR/LF at the end. The file must contain the following single line:
X5O!P%@AP[4\PZX54(P^)7CC)7}$EICAR-STANDARD-ANTIVIRUS-TEST-FILE!$H+H*
Save the file to any name with COM extension, for example EICAR.COM. >From now on, you can use this file to see what happens when antivirus detects a real virus.

Testing Antispam ---------------------------- Verify if antispam is working with the GTUBE test. The test consists in entering the: "XJS*C4JDBQADN1.NSBN3*2IDNEN*GTUBE-STANDARD-ANTI-UBE-TEST-EMAIL*C.34X" line in the body of an e-mail.
antispam must tag as spam any message that contains this string.
The string must be reproduced on a single line.

This download has been blocked by your security zone policy

This message is usually there for a very good reason.

It could be a message from your antivirus or from windows.

Either way it is usually safer to follow its advice.

Unless you are 100% certain that the files is safe and from a reputable source then for the sake of your computers health and you wallet don't download it.

If you really must then either in your antivirus or windows explorer are options to add the site you wish as a safe site which will usually let you then download.

Get error 633

Try to install Avira Free antivirus and Malwarebytes antimalware. Update and scan. Or you can try to install hijackthis to view running processes in your system.

Or you can try to take out the harddrive and scan it to another computer with a good known antivirus.

I have a HP Compaq installed in my home, a/n CAC43500W2 and p/n PC935A#ABA. My operating system is Windows XP Professional product key RP6W4-38TW0-V484F-FW6D6-6M288. Lately Microsoft has been bugging me...

Do you have another antivirus program on your computer? and as far as i know HP do not offer antivirus. Try CA or Norton for this. The best way to get them off your back is to find somewhere for them to stop reminding you or try to update your system for antivirus. If this fails, install a antivirus and the warning should go away. Do not install two different copies of antivirus as they will fight eachother and eventually cause your computer to crash and fail to boot up.

Hope This Helps

To set up security

Hello

To setup security on your desktop computer, you basicly need

  • antivirus software
  • firewall software
  • antispyware software
  1. http://www.avast.com/ (antivirus take the home, its free 14months registeration is free, free for home use, after 14months you can register again, free of charge, I have used this software for few years)
  2. Comodo firewall http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ or zonealarm firewall www.zonealarm.com
  3. Spybot antispyware software http://www.safer-networking.org/index2.html you need to run this program 1-4 times a month to keep your pc clean. it doesn't work on the background like the firewall and antivirus.

No internet connection from wireless computer

Your antivirus and/or spam killer might be blocking access. Turn them off briefly just to see if this is the problem. If so turn antivirus back on and modify settings appropriately. keever
