I have a Panasonic Model TC-p42X1 TV hooked up to a Panasonic SC-PT480 Home Theater system by an HDMI cable from HDMI 1 on TV to HDMI on Theater unit. System setup test okay for speaker sound connections but have been unable to get an sound from TV to output through Theater system at all. Do I need another audio input to Theater sytem besides the HDMI cable which I thought would function on Viera Link under ARC mode?

HDMI 1 will not work. I can switch the cable from HDMI 1 to 2 and it will work.

It's possible that you have the wrong type of HDMI cable. You need one that has Audio Return if you want to feed your Home Theater system with audio from the TV. There are several types of HDMI cable, some with audio return and some without. The two basic types (not including Ethernet) are described below - you need the High Speed version, which does have Audio Return.

I have a Panasonic Model TC-p42X1 TV hooked up to - hdmi-standard.jpgHDMI Standard This is the most basic HDMI standard which all cables have to meet. Cable should contain all the connections required for HD transmission, and have to deliver at least a resolution of 720p, (Video mode of 1280 x 720 meaning 720 Horizontal lines). These cables do not contain an Ethernet connection, or audio return.

I have a Panasonic Model TC-p42X1 TV hooked up to - hdmi-high-speed.jpgimages/hdmi-high-speed.jpg" alt="hdmi-high-speed.jpg" class="h_mi" />HDMI High Speed HDMI High Speed cables will support higher resolutions of 1080p. This means at least 1080 Horizontal lines, and cables rated at this specification may well support high resolutions of up to 4096 x 2160 (2160 Horizontal lines), check individual cables specifications for this data. Cables in this specification will also support a data transfer speed of 10.2Gbs (not to be confused with ethernet data speeds which are different), and a clock speed of 320Mhz. These cables do not contain an Ethernet connection, but do include an Audio Return Channel.

No audio in home theater system until unit warms up

Make sure the receiver is set to use HDMI. Follow your instrution manual on how to set up the HDMI setting. Also, just try a regular HDMI cable. You don't have to spend a lot of money for the cable. All of the HDMI are the same. I was having trouble with my HDMI and read a lot about the cables so, try a $6.99 cable.
Also, make sur you have the cable push in all the way into the TV and receiver. Hope this helped.

I am trying to hook up the panasonic sc-pt480, and we can't get the cable sound to come through the system, all other functions workwell

try plugging the cable sound outputs (red and white plugs) into the other inputs that work on your amp to make sure that you are getting sound from the cable box.

I just bought Panasonic SC-PT480P-K DVD home theater and TC-P46ST30 TV. I connect DVD HDMI output to TV HDMI input port #1. But when I try to play DVD, I just got sound out to the home theater speakers...

Let us take things step by step.
1) If you have an AV cable ( Yellow /Red/White ) try connecting the DVD players composite out (Y/R/W) to the TV's composite in. Select AV input instead of HDMI on the TV and see if you are getting an image. This is to confirm that the DVD video circuit is OK.
2) If all is OK in step one you can try buying a good HDMI v1.3 cable. You do not need a v1.4 cable which is only good for 3D bluray players.
Revert back for more.

I am having trouble connecting my Panasonte SC-BT230 to my cable box and my TV. Do i connect my cable box to SC-Bt230 than to my TV or my SC-BT230 to cable box than to TV

Hello,
Here are a few ways to go about this.
connect the cable box hdmi (if Capable) to the panasonic hdmi input. Then connect panasonic hdmi out to tv hdmi in. The easy thing about this setup is that you only need the two hdmi cables because they carry both audio and video.

If your cable box or tv are not hdmi compatible, Then connect video output from cable box directly to your tv, and send an audio feed from your cable box to the panasonic.
Hope this helps,
Good Luck

How do i connect Panasonic sc PT480 home theater Panasonic lcd tv Panasonic Blu Ray and Virgin V+ box. I have lots of cables but have got totally confused.

Ok, so first, you need to get the pictures to the TV. So, you should have an HDMI lead from the Bluray to the TV. You should have either an HDMI or SCART lead from the Virgin Box to the TV. If you are going to play and DVD's from the Home Theater system, this too needs a scart to the TV, but if you are planning to use the bluray for all playing back, then this is not needed. Next, you want to get the sound from all your equipment to the home theater system. This where it can get confusing, as there are different types of leads that do the same thing. If your TV has an 'Optical Out', and the Theater system has an 'Optical In' then you can connect the two with a Fibre-optic cable, and that means that anything then that you have on the screen, can have the sound through your surround sound. Digital Coaxial In's/outs do the same thing, as do Phono In's/Outs, but phono cables will not carry 5.1 digital. I hope this helps!

Blu ray connect to my sc-pt660

as far as hooking up your blu ray player to the sc-pt660, the only real way to utilize the surround sound (with true surround sound) is through the optical audio out. You need to connect your blu ray player through hdmi to your tv and then connect your blu ray player to your surround sound using the optical audio out/in. I, personally have the sc-pt660 hooked up through component cables so I don't waste an HDMI input on my TV. Except for cd's, there is no reason for you to use the actual dvd player part of the surround sound considering you have a blu ray player. In conclusion, hooking your blu ray player and the sc-pt660 up to get better video simply isnt possible (your blu ray player alone gives the best possible resolution, 1080p). As far as audio goes, run an optical audio cable from your blu ray player to your sc-pt660 to get true surround sound.
