Compaq Presario SR1810NX, AMD Processor, XP with SP-3. Computer shuts down intermittenly (I renamed the Intell power driver already). Windows Media Player states there is no audio card, Computer monitor...

If you have a speaker icon at the lower right side of your screen, right click on that. Click on playback devices. A window should come up with your devices. If you have a sound card or graphics card and want to use either, make sure you're hooked up or that they are recognized. If the window is empty, right click on it and click "disabled devices", if you then see your device right click on it and enable it. You can also try, Click "start", find control panel and click on to open. Find "device manager" and right click on and open. Click continue. Click on the box with + next to "sound video or game controllers". A drop down should show your devices. Right click on each one individually, starting with one you want to use. If you see "enable" click on that. Right click on it again and click on properties. You should see a window with "this device is working properly". Right click on it one more time and click update and let it update. If you are using a sound/graphics card, that might need an update. Let me know what manufacturer and model you have and I acn help with that.

I have iTunes on my Dell computer. It worked fine until a month ago, then it stopped working. It say ''iTunes has detected a problem with my audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate...

You're most likely using a RealTech or sigmatel audio card in your Dell. This is a common issue with this card. Uninstall and reinstall the driver and the issue will go away. Make sure you have the correct version for your OS and get the newest version from your site and you shouldn't have any issues with it happening again.

Plugging in Mic ceases sound playback

The drivers are working, but you apparently have a non asynchronous driver, meaning it either records, or plays, but has trouble doing both.

Gamers usually like their sound a bit beefier than the standard AC97 chip common with mainboards can produce, I would suggest first making absolutely sure your machine is clear of virii, etc,, turn off the windows sounds, because most earlier built-in sound chips cannot multi-client, and if you still have the problem, go for a USB sound box like the M-audio Transit, for around $100, it will give you high definition sound, both in and out, and you won't have to open your PC to install it.

Mind, I am not a shill for M-Audio, but for gamers, you really need the 24bit/96KHz out, to match your game's audio.

You will also find your games may run more smoothly, as the audio role is now in the little box, rather than your CPU.

The digital out can go to your home theater system, the 5.1 really makes it more fun.

Just installed new motherboard and now receive following message......itunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/Video playback may not operate properly. How do I fix this?

Try reinstalling quicktime. Go on control panel uninstall quicktime. Then go to this url:http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.html
Download it again. And install it again. Itunes should now work.

If it doesn't, for Video problems: Open QuickTime Player and go to 'Edit' -> 'Preferences' -> 'QuickTime Preferences' -> 'File Types' -- check here to see if the file format of your problem video files is selected.

For Audio problems: Open QuickTime Player and go to 'Edit' -> 'Preferences' -> 'QuickTime Preferences' -> 'Audio' -- Here you will see a Device is needed that will play your sound. Select 'Audio Playback and Recording Devices', If you are having an Audio problem it may be due to having no device or an improper device.

Good Luck
