Went to the beach, camera was not submerged but was lightly splashed once while in my hands very minimal. After the power button did not work? Is it worth sending to the manufacturer or a repair shop such as yourself? Please advise

Re: Canon SD850IS not powering on at all
Water exposure of any kind is very BAD. You can short out the fuse or you can cause bad corrosion to the PCB (printed circuit board).
You can try replacing the fuse on the board if there isn't heavy corrosion seen, the fuses are very cheap and if you know somebody who can solder well then can do the repair fairly easily once you locate the fuse on the board.
If there is bad corrosion, you will need to replace the PCB. Problem is NOBODY out there will sell you a PCB for a decent price because they are very expensive to buy new from Canon... roughly $150 I would say, if not more.
We take pride in being an affordable digital camera repair shop, and if we can we would love to help with your repair. I don't have current pricing for this PCB but I can check with my overseas supplier and find out how much they are new. I can also see if I have a used one (I think I do...) that we could use to do the repair if that is what your camera needed.
Again as I said... corrosion is bad. If there is ANY corrosion Canon will refuse the repair.

Hi the only thing you could try is to go to a computer repair shop and buy a small can of compressed air their about the size of deodorant can, buy one of these and then give the shutter a good blast with the canned air this should then dislodge and sand or grit that it causing the shutter to remain open.
another thing you can try is hold the camera in your one hand and then hit the side of the camera into the palm of your other hand, this wont damage the camera but doing this should shock any grit out thats stopping it from closing try doing this with both side of the camera it should dislodge what ever is keeping it open give it a few hard hits into the palm of your other hand, so that the side of the camera is hitting the palm of your hand. so hold the camera on its side not the way you would to take picture tip it on its side then hold it like that then hit the camera into the palm of your other hand, doing this should free it up and get it closing again for you.
it would also be a good idea to get the can of air as this will ensure you have removed all the grit and sand from the camera.
let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
Is the replacement a few dollars less than a new one and then S and H is it worth that? Or buy new...? Never head of any company exchanging a camera for any difference in price unless an extended warranty... Yours really UP? then You lose buy new!
That is your choice! If you want???
Beach salt and then moisture it may just be scrap in a few months clean it out experiment take it out of it's shell seperate it from the lens submerge the electronics in some electronis cleaner solution blow it out with dry Nitrogen that is Ideal or just the 30 lbs of air canned of course. the lense will need attention too..
when the camera falls in the water, only the power supply would have got bad, just take it to the manufacture, he will replace the power unit, it will work as good as the new one,, thank you,, plz rate me
