I cannot get my printer to print in black. I have restarted, checked the power cables, replaced the ink catridge and still it won't work. It happened suddenly from one print job to the next

1. Get a damp paper towel.
2. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.
3. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean.
4. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
5. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.

Good Luck!!!!!

I have an hp psc 1215 all-in-one. My black cartridge won't print. It recognises if I swap it out for a new one, and goes through all the motions. It registers the correct ink levels. The cradle...

The problem is not with the ink-cartridges. You've proved that, by swapping BLACK cartridges.

The problem is that the ink-jets that spray the BLACK ink onto the paper are clogged.
Thus, no BLACK ink reaches the paper.

Open the HP Printing Assistant, and open Utilities, and run a few "print-head-cleaning" cycles, to try to unclog the print-head.

When i try to print a photo i get white stripes across the photo. I bought a new ink cartridge but it didn't help.

White stripes across a print-out usually indicate clogged printer heads: look at your user manual on the cleaning procedures.
You can try cleaning BOTH the Black and Color cartridges heads by gentling cleaning and wiping the heads with clean moist tissue paper/kitchen paper. Also clean and dry the contacts (eg. copper looking printed circuit).
For bad and very dirty print heads, I also use a warm shallow dish of water and wash the head only and then dry off with clean tissue paper.
After re-inserting the cartridge, I suggest that you do a cleaning cycle and alignment and do a test print to ensure that the printing is back to normal.
Hope it helps: let me know how you go.

I have a Kodak printer ESP5250. I have replaced the black ink cartridge, done a printer head alignment, and cleaned the printer heads. When I print a black and white printout I only get the outline, the...

Did you replaced the cartridge because of this issue or because it was depleted?

Since Kodak cartridges have the Print head attached to each cartridge it may be that the cartridge it malfunctioning.

To Test use a lightly damped paper towel and put the cartridge or print head where the ink comes out in top of the paper towel if ink start flowinf to the paper towel then the cartridge is fine, otherwise try to exchange that cartridge for a new one.

Do I need a color cartridge to print in black ink

the paper was black or blank? i think you mean blank, the ink will dry out over time replacing the cartridges will most likely solve the problem, or for the cost of the two cartridges u may want to consider a new cheap printer.

Canon MP980 prints horizontal pink lines across

try to change the color ink. horizontal banding (the pink or other color lines appearing means horizontal banding) when there is a problem on one of the heating element of the printer head. since almost all canon printers have head built in the inks, replacing the faulty ink will solve the problem. if not then the controller of printhead on the carriage and mainboard needs to be checked.

Nothing prints out on paper.

Did you remove the little sticky tabs from each new cartridge? They allow air in, and ink out.

Black ink is faint

First I would suggest performing any head alignment functions with your printer's menu to be sure you have the stepper motor feed adjusted properly. Use the paper you are currently printing on for this procedure so that the thickness of that paper is factored in.
If you stil see the banding after doing this, you can use the Advanced Media Control button under Printer Settings in ColorBurst to fine-tune the paper feed adjustment. Print out the "Media Advance.tif" target (located in the ColorBurst/images & Targets folder) to use as a guide. For white bands, you'll need to enter a negative number (to shorten the paper feed).

Won't print black

I found a solution to the Black printing problem :)
Under Printing Preferences: Set your Media Type to Photo Paper Pro.
We used edible ink cartridges and printed onto icing sugar paper. Same old... Just one day it refused to print black. In order to continue our small business, I degraded the color until I printed gray and not black.

Tonight, I browsed for the problem and came across this :)

Hope it helps you too
