Make sure center speaker is connected.Look in owners manual to reset, unit might be in an incorrect surround mode.If listening to a stereo source, take it out of surround.

Check in your speaker setup menu. Sometimes you can select between using the surround back speaker jacks as "B" front speakers as well. You would have to tell the unit which one you want to use it as.

I can hear music and background noises but no talking when I play a DVD.

Hi, What you are encountering is your receivers playback of a Dolby digital signal with out the proper amount of speakers attached. When using a 5.1 or higher system you must have at least 5 speakers connected. You need front left & right main speakers, then you need a center channel for the voices to play thru. then you want left & right rear speakers for the surround effect. It is possible though to do without these, you just switch the receivers sound field mode from theatre or movie to stereo. I hope this helps, write back to let us know if we did or if we can be of more help and thanks for choosing FixYa,good luck Prodzilla

Hi,
I wrote a short article for someone who had a similar problem a few days ago.
I will edit it for you so that it fits. Here it is.
Your DVD player should have output connectors in the back of it to plug your amplifier or receiver into. If you have a Stereo system (no surround sound speakers, or front center speaker) connect the DVD Audio Cables on the back of the DVD player to the STEREO (or MIXED ) Output Jacks. If it is connected to the Left Front and Right Front jacks of the "Surround Sound" output jacks instead of Stereo(or MIXED) then the dialog will be sent to the CENTER channel output. If you have no center channel speaker you will not hear it. Thus no dialog.
NOTE: In your case for the TV that is mono, here is the solution.
1 Connect a stereo pair of RCA cables (red and white "male" connectors at each end) to the Mixed or Stereo Output of the DVD player (NOT ANY SURROUND OUTPUTS).
2 Purchase an RCA type "Y" connector that has 2 female to a single male connectors on it. Walmart about 3 dollars.
3 Plug the single male plug of the Y connector into the back of the TV set's single mono audio input.
4 Connect the stereo RCA pair from the MIXED output of the DVD player into the Y connector that is now on the back of yourTV.
5 Run your yellow Video output from the DVD into the Back of the Set's yellow input.
That should do it. The sound should be clear and correct with dialog, effects and music.
Hope this helps,
Best,
Mark

I would like to know if my ht 3913 will work thru the TV sound, I have no problem with it working when I'm using the DVD player to watch movies, but I would like to hear the TV thru surround sound

Directly , no, since the tv sound is always just on 2 channels. But you can convert it in the receiver to surround by activating either the SRS Surround or the DolbyProLogicII options on your receiver.

Voice volume is low compared to background music volume on AVR-2808CI

Could be a number of things.
Most likely your surround sound mode. Some people dont like Dolby. Try to switch to 5 channel stereo.
Other option is to turn the center channel speaker channel volume up. Voices and dialog come from the center channel speaker in Dolby modes. Post back if you need instructions.
Please rate my solution.

Im having a problem with my kenwood VR-7070 receiver.I have my DVD player hood up to it using an optical cable and s-video. The sound comes in digital sounds amazing but the souround sound music is so much...

No unfortunately this is the way movies are made. I know what you are feeling it is the most annoying thing ever. The only thing you can do is turn down all the surround speakers and turn up your center channel. the voices and talking are always output through the center channel. So you have to do a lot of messing around to get the best settings for you. I am an audiophile and I will never understand why they make the background sound/music in some scenes so much louder then any talking. Hope this helps if you have any other questions please let me know.
Thanks,
Lee

Check the center channel speaker and the surround sound audio settings. If you do not have a center speaker, it needs to be set to off on the receiver.

Is the volume on the dish network device turned all of the way dowm?

Is the dish network connected to its pwn input on the SS system and did you turn the SS system to that input ?

Are you using the analog input (red and white) cables to the input from the TV to the SS System?, not from the SS box? This is not the correct setup?

Cant Hear Dialogue Over the Background Sound

I had the same problem, first you can download the manual online to see how to reset the speakers. next, make sure you have true digital audio input with a fiber optic or like connector. you should see little LED symbols of r/l/c/w/rr/rl etc. If you just see R and L, it is not getting a true signal.

But what worked the best was getting a better, devoted, CENTER speaker, not just a speaker in the center, but one devoted to dialogue.

good luck
