Hi again,

Appreciate much the "Ask Me".

I posted a rejoinder in your original post. Below is a copy...

"To fully determine whether the switch is defective or not, a continuitytester is required as well as access/removal of the said switch. This page would show you general idea of lid switches, while here would be an illustration of a generic approach to gaining access to lid switch of a top loading washer.

Another indicator would be a solid clicking sound if the switch engages but technically the continuity test would be best

A quick & dirty check if it is really the switch or not (and in the
absence of a continuity tester) is simply (but temporarily) jumping / shorting the
wires (two) that goes to the lid switch. The lid switch is a safety
feature hence doing this procedures calls for knowledge of basic
electrical circuitry and related safe practices when working with
    electrically powered devices.

Doesn't spin or agitate

Hello & Welcome to FixYa

When the washer fills but does not agitate or spin then you can check if the lid switch is fine. You can jump start the lid switch by connecting both the wires with each other or use the third wire to act as jumper between the two. After this if the problem is solved then replacing lid switch is recommended repair. Please get back to me if you have any other questions.

This is a top loading washing machine. Initially, you may want to check the lid/cover ans see if it does not seat properly. There is a switch that has to be engaged when the cover is fully/correctly closed. If not, the switch will lit the warning light as you see it and prevent any further action from the machine.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Will not agitate or spin. Have replaced the belt (was worn) but still wont. Fills fine. When I first put the new belt on I ran it empty (stopped it when it started agitating, moved it to sping, stopped...

Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome. If you have a washer that has a weak agitation or no agitation at all, here are some possible solutions. You need to check your belts. Most washers have one or two belts. Check your lid switch. If a lid switch is bad, it can cause the washer to not work properly. Sometimes, they will not work at all. Make sure you check your drive motor. The drive motor controls the spinning, draining, and agitation. Most washers have the reverse motor, meaning the shaft rotates in both directions, clockwise and counterclockwise. It is possible to lose one direction and not the other. Some washers have a clutch that controls the agitation. If it is bad or worn, it may prevent the agitator to work. Most of these washers come from General Electric. You could have a bad motor coupler. They are located on the side of the motor drive inside the washer. It is also possible that you have a bad transmission. Check the agitator itself. You could have a bad spline or two. The splin accompanies the shaft and allows the movement of the agitator. If you rule out all the parts above, you may have an electrical issue or an issue with the control board. It is very important to test each part and make sure it is getting power. If a part is not working and not getting any power, the power loss may be the reason that it doesn't work. You can test the current in the wires with a voltage meter. Thank you very much for reading this tip and thank you for using Fixya. As for the spinning, you need to check the lid switch. It may be bad. It may be your motor drive since it doesn't do both. Have you had draining problems?

How many wires go into the lid switch?
If there's only two wires, short or connect them together and wrap the connection with electrical tape.
Then put the timer/programmer on the spin cycle and try if the water drains out and the machine goes to the spin phase.
If this works, then you have a defective lid switch/ lid locker

I had this happen once and believe it is caused by an object in the DD not letting the inside top lid to close. The top lid needs to be reset. Simply unplug the power and wait 30 seconds or so and plug it back in. This should reset it.

Drain/Spin won't work unless lid is lifted up

Curdy, it almost sounds like your lid switch is loose or fractured and the lid actuator is not making the switch. Check this out first and post back...Catriver.
