BLACK SCREEN

You can do this:
1. Remove the hard drive and turn on the laptop. If the laptop's screen displays the BIOS, then replace the hard drive with a good working hard drive,
If it the laptop screen does not display anything, then:
2. Test it using an external monitor.
- If the external monitor blank too, then there is something wrong with your laptop's GPU and or motherboard (you need to replace the motherboard)

I have an HP G62 225dx that shows a cracked screen on the display. When I hook up an external monitor it does not display correctly. Does the motherboard need replaced?

If the screen still doesn't display properly when connected to an external monitor, then there is probably a problem with the graphics chip on the motherboard. This can usually be repaired, but you'll still need to use the external monitor unless you get the screen replaced as well!

I have lots of horizontal for bout the 1st 2 inches across the base of my screen do i need a new display

Quite likely but before you buy a screen from ebay, (the cheapest source of nwe and second hand sellers) plug an external screen in to check it isn't a VGA uProcessor problem.
Hope that helps.

Black screen on acer laptop

Black screen is a number of things.
*If you`re laptop turns on but you see no display at all..does`nt even post,Then its the GPU on you`re motherboard thats faulty & will need replacing. Or
*Its you`re screen inverter which is a small circuit board located inside on the bottom of you`re LCD screen which needs replacing.Theyre cheap and not expensive.
*Do a test for example : Connect you`re laptop to a PC monitor Via VGA to VGA cable.Connect to youre laptops PC input to your monitor PC input,Then turn you`re laptop on.If it displays on you`re monitor then its the problem with your LCD laptop screen,Or the inverter needs replacing.
If theres no display on the pc monitor then its You`re motherboard onboard GPU (graphic Card) - Which you will need to replace the motherboard.

System freezes-Video display=multi-staggered image(not legible)

It's either a loose connection from the motherboard to the video-display, or a partially-broken video-display, or the video-adapter in your motherboard.

Connect an external monitor -- if it looks OK when the internal LCD is "wavy", then your computer is fine.

But, since your say "happens to both screens", the most-likely problem is the video-adapter, which usually means that you will have to get COMPAQ to replace the motherboard.

Blank Screen on start. No display

You need to replace the motherboard. When nothing comes on the display this means the bios on the motherboard is bad and the board and cpu need replaced.

When i turn it on the power light comes on but thats bout it no on screen display

The BIOS chip seems to have gone. This is the chip that assumes control of the PC/laptop when powered on. After testing the hardware under POST, it passes the control to the HDD or whatever has been configured to boot first. If this chip is bad then no action and no display are justified. Please have this BIOS chip replaced.

Laptop screen displays vertical lines of various colours

Have you tried to connect your laptop to external monitor?
If you get normal picture on external monitor, then you need to replace LCD screen, but if you get same picture on external screen, then unfortunately you will need new motherboard, because graphics card is integrated to motherboard.
