First, is the internal cooling fan running when you cook?

The cooling fan (not to be confused with the hood / exhaust / vent fan) is critical to keeping the magnetron from overheating.

The magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open.

Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

This can be due to a failed cooling fan or a failing magnetron.

One way to test this is to place a cup of water inside and cook on the lowest power setting for 2 minutes and see if it makes it all the way through.

Then try it again on full power.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

We even have a video on our site that shows you how to safely & easily remove the control panel assembly in less than 5 minutes so you can check out your oven.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

We're happy to help you and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

There could be a connection problem in the electrical outlet the microwave is plugged into or anywhere in that circuit all the way back to your electric breaker panel. It sounds like the microwave is losing power and resetting. WARNING: Any type of electrical work should only be completed by persons qualified to do so.

Hi, I have a Maytag stove and unfortunately have lost my manual. In the last couple of days there has been an alarm going off with F1 appearing on the display panel. Once at 5:30 am and at 1:00 am. Could...

With Maytag Ovens the F1 error means Defective touch pad or clock (ERC). This simple test will help determine whether the ERC (Electronic Range Control or Clock) or the touch pad is defective when F1 error code is present. (If you don't feel comfortable doing this yourself you need to arrange a repair technician to look at it for you)

1. Disconnect power to the range (unplug the range power cord or turn the power off to the range at the circuit breaker). It is very important that the power to the range has been disconnected, so please double check before continuing.
2. Gain access inside the control panel.
3. Disconnect the touch pad (also called keypad or membrane switch) ribbon from the ERC.
4. Make sure there are no lose wires, or anything else that may cause a short when power is turned back on. Assemble the control panel back the way it was.
5. Turn the power back on.
6. Wait for at least one hour to see if the F1 code comes back (usually accompanied by a beeping sound).
7. If F1 comes back, replace the ERC. If it does not, replace the touch pad.

Regards, Kat (please leave feedback, thanks)

No power at display!

You've probably destroyed your magnetron, and the magnetron thermostat.

This kind of abuse will not be covered under warranty.

It will likely run about $75 for a technician to visit the home, $75 to do the work, $75-90 for the magnetron, and about $15 for the thermostat.

hi,
The F2 code is a keyboard failure. Since it's intermittent I would check for a loose wire/connection. open the control panel and reset the ribbon cable on the circuit board....

Yes. As the magnetron (The microwave generator) ages with use it becomes less efficient. As such it produces less powerful microwaves and loses penetrating power:::Spiceweasel.au

Magicchef over the range microwave loses display and power

It sounds like your magnetron is overheating and its thermostat is resetting.

Try it with a cup of water in one corner and see if that helps.

Otherwise, most manufacturers have a warranty of several years on the magnetron.

For info on that, visit http://www.magicchef.com/home.jsp

Since it's under warranty, I would check with MayTag or a local Maytag-authorized servider: http://maytag.com/support/service_parts.jsp
