SOURCE: my portable dvd player has sound but no picture on the screen. pl

If you still have use of the on screen menu functions, you can try using the restore to factory setting option in the preferences section of the set-up menu. Press the setup button on the remote control and use the up and down arrows to find and highlight the preferences section, press ok to enter the sub-menu.In the sub-menu use the up and down arrows to find and highlight the default option. Press ok. This will reset the dvd player to the factory settings. If you do not have the use of the on screen menu, you can use the a/v outputs to a external monitor or television to perform the abouve procedure to try to restore the dvd player to normal operation. If all this fails you can call Phillips customer support at this telephone number. 1-888-744-5477 They will be able to help you, either solve your problem or get the dvd player serviced.I hope this information helps you with your problem.

SOURCE: dvd player will not reconize a dvd when trying to play

Try cleaning the dvd compartment of all dust and debris with a can of compressed air. Check and make sure all the dust and debris is cleared of the laser transport and lens. Use cotton swabs and small amount of isopropyl alcohol to clean off the laser lens and tracks and gears of the transport . Use a cotton swab with a small amount of alcohol on the tip to clean the laser lens. Rub the swab gently across the lens, until it appear bright and shines. Use the other side of the swab to remove any excess moisture from the lens. Use cotton swabs to clean the rails and gear of transport. Applie small amounts of alcohol to the tips to loosen caked on dust or dirt. Use compressed air again to clear the dust and debris from transport area. After the through cleaning. Try the player again, using a dvd to see if the operation returns to normal. If not, try resetting the dvd player to factory setting. You can do this using the on screen menu to go into the settings. Use the remote control and press the settings button. Use the up and down arrows to highlight the preferences section and press enter. Once in the sub-menu use the up and down arrows to highlight the default function and press enter. This will have reset the dvd player to the factory settings. Now try using a dvd to test the player to see if it operates normally. If it does not play normally, you may have a proplem with the spindel, check it to make sure its is making good contact with motor, if it appears loose, applie a drop of super glue to snug up the grip. After it dries completely. Test the player again with a dvd. If the unit still fails to operate normally, you may be having problems with either the drive motor or the power supply circuits. For these problems you need to contact a service center. They will have all the service information to troubleshoot these problems properly. You can call Phillips customer support at this telephone number 1-888-744-5477. They will be able to tell you how to get the dvd player tested and serviced. Portable DVD player won't recognize door is closed.

My guess would be that the switch inside that the tray hits to tell the dvd player it's closed is broken.

My Mintek portable DVD player's battery will not charge. I have rarely used the battery so I can't believe the battery is dead. The AC cord works to power it when plugged in. Why won't it...

After a while even rechargeable batteries loose the ability to hold a charge. This process accelerates when the battery is allowed to lie completely discharged for long periods of time. NiCad batteries especially have this issue. If you left the battery sitting for long periods without occasionally charging it, it losses the ability to hold a charge. It appears you are going to have to either do without the battery or replace the pack. I would take out the old one, it will eventually start to corrode and leak and if its still in your machine it will cause damage. If you get a new battery pack make sure you charge it fully and then depleat it completely before recharging it. hope this helps.
