Is the battery fully charged. What were you doing on it right before you shut it down. Also make sure your putting the battery i. The right way
Also you can\'t charge the battery by usb into a computer. You need to use the external wall charger.
Unfortunatly the d3100 does not contain am external reset button like the Nikon D3000 but this might help. Take out the sd card and battery and leave it out for a couple hours then, after a couple hours have past reinsert the Battery without the SD card. If it still doesn\'t work shine a flashlight into the battery holder to see if any of the metal connectors are bent.
The only logical explanation after that if it still doesn\'t work is that the battery died doesn\'t have to look damaged it can crap out anytime. I would try getting a new battery and putting it in. If you just got the camera you could tell the place you got it at and they should give you a new battery.
i hope I could help, your going to have to trial and error this one to see what gets it to work.
sounds like you got a lemon battery. if it is less than a year old it should still be under warranty - contact Nikon and see if they will replace it at no charge
Is there a light on the charger to indicate that it is powered up when you connect it to the mains socket. If so then the adapter is probably OK and the battery is faulty or worn out. Try purchasing a new battery and charge it in the adapter.
You have one of a few problems. Either your new battery is defective, which does occasionally happen, or there is a problem with your battery charger. The other possibility is that your camera has a problem; possibly a short circuit that is draining the battery. If you have a spare battery and it will take a charge, your new battery is probably bad.
Basically, you put batteries into the flash, put it into the flash mount on the top of the camera, turn everything on, select a flash mode, and start shooting. The flash comes with a detailed manual describing its operation. There is a section in the camera manual describing the various flash modes. The SB-700 is fully compatible with the Nikon iCLS system, which includes the D3100.

Hi dear mount11zion, are the battery full charged?,please verfy.Charge the battery about 2 hs.. If still remains dark without any information go to dealer asap. Regards
Any Nikon digital SLR will work with this lens. However, there are two things to consider.
On cameras other than the D700 and the D3 family, the smaller sensor will make the lens appear as a 105-315mm. On the D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D3100, and D5000 cameras, you will lose the autofocus capability.
