I have the same problem. How do you change the fuse? Does that one metal
piece unscrew to provide access to fuse? Thanks

POSSIBLE CAUSES FOR FAILED STARTUP: The C340 fuse in the cigarette lighter connector may also be bad and needs to be replaced. If the cradle power cord is from Garmin, just press and unscrew the metal connector to remove and replace the cylinder fuse.

A second possible cause of failed startup is that the internal battery is not properly connected in some way to either the USB power cable or the c340 cradle power cable. As a result, the battery will not recharge. Check the power cable and connectors to see if the cable is not plugged in correctly or if the cable or connectors are broken in some way. Try using another Garmin C300 series power cord.

Finally, with age, the C340 internal battery tends to go bad and may need to be replaced. If the battery is totally dead (even after attempting to recharge) the C340 will not power up.

ADVANCED DIAGNOSTICS: Try taking off the C340 case and testing the old C340 battery after recharging with a multimeter to measure and see if it still carries a charge.

A replacement C340 battery can be purchased at a low cost off eBay, but will require the C340 case to be unscrewed and 2 internal wires to unsoldered from the old battery and resoldered onto the new battery.

I had the same problem on a trip. Required two fixes and once I did this the unit worked fine.
1. Replace the fuse in the car adapter (reason it wasn't charging when I used it in the car).
2. See the users manual on page 31 regarding resetting your C340.

My Garmin C340 started to have problems powering on and transferring data through the USB port when I connected a USB cigarette lighter/power cord. The problems started when C340 carriage suction mount fell off of the car window, yanking the USB cord. However, I was able to use the cradle and its separate power cord to recharge the C340 and use it with no problem.

The problem is caused by abruptly pulling the USB connector, which cracked and broke the USB connector pin(s) housing needed to transfer the data.

All Garmin repair/service vendors stores would not repair my C340, only replace it where I would lose access to any future lifetime map updates unless I paid Garmin an extra $99.

I'm looking at transferring the internal EPROM chip that identifies my C340 serial number from the old broken C340 to another C340 but have not yet tries this...

Why does my c340 keep losing satellite reception

Hello there:
please follow these instruction and this should help if not let me know and i willcontinue to get you more information for you
nstructions
  1. Step 1 Calibrate the screen of the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the touch screen does not seem to respond when you hit it with your finger or a stylus, you may need to calibrate it. To do this, turn the unit off and then hold down the "Power" key for approximately one minute. You will see a calibration screen come up that will recalibrate the GPS2_bing.gif unit.
  2. Step 2 Reset the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If your GPS unit is not responding or is stuck on a particular screen, it may need to be reset in order to operate. To reset, remove the face plate of the unit by gently prying it off. Locate the "Reset" button under the face plate and press down in order to restart the device.
  3. Step 3 Change the fuse of the Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the fuse blows on the GPS, you will need to make a replacement using an ACG/3AG 2 amp fuse. Unscrew the adapter cord at the end and remove the fuse found there. Put in the new fuse to see if this returns function to the unit.
  4. Step 4 Update the software for your Garmin StreetPilot C340. If the GPS is not providing you with correct directional information, you may need to update the software or download new maps onto the device. Connect the Garmin StreetPilot C340 with the USB cord to your PC and log on the Garmin website for available updates.

Garmin won't power on

My unit had the same problem. So I tried this first. With the display unit facing you, the aluminum cover plate has the the word GARMIN on it. Use you fingernail under the word Garmin and the cover plate comes off. The left part of the cover stays attached to GPS and the right side lifts up exposing the RESET button. I pressed RESET and POWER together and it works now. Hope this works for you also.

First, be sure you are outside, in the open when making this diagnosis. If, when outside in clear view, you still have problems, try this...

Have you tried a hardware RESET? The button is hidden behind the front panel, which snaps off by a fingernail slot located directly under the GARMIN logo on the front panel.

* Use caution removing and reinstalling the front panel... it's somewhat fragile... wiggle it a little to get it off.

Press where it says "Press to Reset", hold for a second or two. Charge the unit with the car cord or USB cable, then try to turn it on again.

Once you can get the unit to (hopefully) turn ON, you should run all updates (there may be several!) using Garmin's Webupdater. (Connect to computer with USB cable first.)

Hope this helps!!

The battery usually has a small charge when arriving from the factory, but it can die before it is received. You should charge this by plugging it into the car or the computer.

Charging unit with AC adapter

I have a 100v A/C power / charger unit for my garmin C340 GPS that I use to charge my Garmin's battery every day. I can use thj adapter to run the GPS, or just turn it off and let it charge the GPS. But it connects dirctly to the Garmin GPS unit, not to the cradle like the Cigarrette lighter unit does. .

Garmin c340 went black and can't get it working

The battery was completely dead. I must not have had the cord plugged in to my lighter, or maybe it wasn't sitting properly on the cradle, and it was running on battery power. I found that when I charged it by the computer, it was ok. It is working with no problems, now.
