Downloading photos from camera

How can I download photos from my CANON POWERSHOT 460 camera?
When I try, it takes me to the choice of Scanner or Camera. I try to choose Camera........but it goes ahead an scans......resulting in NOTHING.

I need some steps of instruction to walk me through this. Thanks.
