Question about Mitsubishi WS-55807 TV

Frustrated with tv repairman

I have a Mitsubishi HD WS55807, Had the screen turn blue and red convergence would go off and then straighten back up,but was able to see the program, until the next day when it would not power up at all. Called a local repair service & they took it for a week, they replaced horizonal & vertical convergence hold & power pack and fuses. He said glycol had leaked onto the big chip (Panasonic MN102H57KMA 020U4M85)on the one board. He repaired the leak and cleaned around the chip, then put some kind of sealant on the chip. Said in high humidity the glycol creates a white residue and we could have more problems.
About two weeks after getting it back the screen turned pink. Called the repair man and he came in & cleaned the chip,(Panasonic MN102H57KMA 020U4M85)with amonia. Told us it may need to to go back to factory to be repaired(they don't make replacement boards for this model).
The third time he came back, a week after the second time because the screen went pink again, he cleaned this chip again. I cleaned this chip two times now with amonia, because he showed me how to clean it and said to use amonia.
When the screen goes pink, it doesn't stay pink, it goes back and forth from pink to a clear picture. Is this the problem?

Good day, rickbowers;

This may be your problem, this model is known for this concern. But let me ask you; is there more fluid on the board? If so put some type of "sheild" over mentioned area. Some shops use a thick cardboard or others use a heavy plastic, install over entire area.

Try this first.

Let me know, good luck, big IRISH.

Convergence is way off, Rt & Lf side of screen has red & blue around objects

Convergence IC's inside of your TV have to be replaced. Also some low value resistors around IC's could be burned as well.
Then convergence have to be realigned. This job require above-average soldering skills and cost around $300 if you hire TV repairman to do that.
Regards.

Screen role red and green wavie lines.

Hello dctc1,

Looks like there is a problem with the convergence IC's. You will have to replace both of them. I would also look for busted capacitors around the IC's.

However, if you are not familiar with TV repairs, I would advise against opening up the set. Best get a service man to come and diagnose/repair the set.

Hope that helps!

I have a Mitsubishi projection T.V that turns off after I turn it on. Before this started happening the edges of the screen would look bowed like 3-D. Can you help to tell what is wrong and how to fix it?

Projection sets have two very common problems outlined below.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. The TV can also shut down when the convergence starts to fail.

Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith, RCA and others.

You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from TV Repair Kits using the link at the end of this article.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped or bowed
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Blue convergence bows when watching tv, hdtv looks great

Below are two of the most common problems encountered with projection TV sets.

Problem #1 - CONVERGENCE PROBLEM

Projection TV2_bing.gif sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung2_bing.gif, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash2_bing.gif focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.

This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from www.TvRepairKits.com

The Convergence Circuit has failed. It should be repaired by a professional. It will require replacement of the convergence ICs.
I hope this helps,

Concaved distorted picture in 1080 Mitsubishi 65" TV.

This is a convergence rpoblem that is either bad connections on the pins of the convergence ICs or defective ICs. If you can solder and are comfortable working inside TVs where there are potentially dangerous high voltages, let me know and I'll provide additional details and instructions for fixing this yourself.

I had this problem and corrected it by resoldering all 36 pins of the 2 convergence IC's. Biggest problem was getting the circuit board out far enough to prop it up and get underneath and get at the solder connections, required unplugging a few cables, 3 screws holding it in. Works great now, I used to fix it by taking the back off and banging on the Heat Sinks which house the IC's, I could tell then that it reacted like cold solder joints. I decided after a field service guy charged us 95.00 for a service call and quoted 650.00 for a repair. Hope this helps someone.
